I am trying to loose weight and get more exercise. So I decided to join a gym. However. I am not a fan of plain old water.
What is the difference between Water and Diet Pepsi (as far as health wise) Diet Pepsi has 0 calories (duh) but is it good to start off with on a diet?
Water's always best, IMO, and diet drinks have been studied as to whether or not they actually help or hurt weight loss. I personally drink water or unsweet iced tea and use those 5 calorie drink mixes that you can mix into your water bottle (Crystal Light and Propel make similar products).
This story is from 2004 but I think it's still relevant when talking about drinking diet soda and weight loss. Of course, if you have a diet from time to time it's not goint to sabotage you.
Pepsi does not truly have zero calories. Just less than 5 in a serving size. So drop it if you just cant stop losing. Also the fake sugar makes your blood sugar spike and crash a bit. This goes for any fake sugar. Even blood sugar is a big key to weightless. Its one of the reasons diabetics have such a hard time with it. Its also why they tell you to spread your meals through the day evenly.
These blood sugar spikes can also create cravings for food making dieting harder than it needs to be.
Pepsi doesn't hydrate you like water does. Dehydration can affect your metabolism by slowing it up to 10 percent.
Just a little trick I used to get my water in when I am not in the mood:
I fill one of those sports bottles and throw it in the fridge. When I go for a pop or food I just chug it and get it over with. Gets my water in for the day and I can have a few diet pops too.
water vs. diet anything will always win. frankly, if I'm going to have soda, I'd rather have the stuff w/ real sugar! no fake sugars, no HFCS. it's a rare treat for me (I like Whole Food's 365 canned soda, esp. the cherry vanilla!).
I guess I'm one of those rare people that loves water and am not a fan of unsweetened flavored waters (ie, tossing in a slice of cucumber or lemon into a glass of water). I was a fan of the Crystal Light stuff, but have weaned myself off of them over time. it's been a bit harder weaning myself off of naturally sweetened enhanced waters, but I'm getting better. I'd say go w/ these if you don't like water. there are some brands (NOT Vitamin water, which has a lot of calories) that don't have a lot of calories and use a bit of real sugar
I am going to try some stevia sweetened sodas and products, and some other natural alternative sugars to see how I like those.
I quit drinking diet soda (never liked regular soda) over 4 years ago. My dental checkups have improved. Soda is not good for your stomach and can create acid reflux issues. Shoot, if it cleans rust off of metal, can you imagine what it's doing to your stomach?
Diet sodas are full of asparthame which has been proven to make you hungrier.
Water is definately the best choice.
I drink it with some apple cider vinegar.
I drink diet soda and it doesn't cause cravings for me, nor does it make me more hungry. I like it and it's a treat I can fit into my everyday diet, so I keep drinking it. I can't remember the guy's name, but the scientist whom everyone quotes when saying you need 8 glasses of water a day. I saw him on TV saying he has been misquoted, that normal people can get most of the water they need just from what your food contains and that the rest can be gotten from juice, coffee, soda, whatever liquid you wish to drink. I guess the answer is, if it works for you drink it. If not, cut it out.
