(OECD 2011) this means that roughly 230 million americans are overweight.

You do realise that the rest of the world is using your country as an example of what they above all else do NOT want to end up like health-wise, right?

If i were your president/congress(whoever makes these kinds of decisions) I'd be more of a Hitler in this issue, and take action. Back in world war II there was a crisis on manpower to fight the war, so your government conscripted people to fight the war.
In your current scenario I'd declare war on bad health habits, but instead of drafting males between 18 and 25 fit for fight It'd be anyone unfit for "fight".
for example;

*Large Scale Biggest Loser, evening crashcourses in nutrition for weightloss followed by compulsory training.

*increased sports-programs (to make the LSBL more fun). for example extremely few people over the age of 30 seem to do any kind of team or competitive sports at an amature level, for some reason this is different in other countries. This can be changed. Ever seen a 50 year old play full pads football? I have, Impossible is nothing.

*ID and ticket demand for buying fast foods; each citizen is to be given 4 tickets connected to the socialsecuritynumer/ID a month with the opportunity to eat fast food. No ticket-no meal. harsh monetary punishments for serving ticketless customers.

*Sugartaxes for foods containing more than 5%sugar set high enough to make your typical bodega-crap expensive in comparison.

*Schools teach plenty of bullcrap the kids can be without, for example religion, history, arts, music ,you name it. a bit of each soft sciences can easily be cut to give room for another subject. Something they desperately need is to be educated in nutrition, health and exercise.

*Also weight tickets kind of like speeding tickets to motivate people to keep from overweight; this sounds harsh, but a whip that doesn't hurt is no whip at all. And of course some people who have be excluded, for example it can't be expected from a legless man to run. People in the LSBL would be excluded after confirmed effort.

The sugartaxes and weight tickets are to fund the other

Extreme? not imo.
Expensive? Yes, in the short run.
Hard to apply? definitively, but doable.
I veyr much doubt Mrs Obama will do anything like this though.

Being First Lady means taking on an "official" White House Cause. Anyone who knows anything knows this is par for the course.

Nancy Reagan - Just Say No to drugs
Ladybird Johnson - sponsoring highway beautification act
Ellen Wilson - "Ellen Wilson Bill" for affordable housing
Laura Bush - Ready to Read, Ready to learn literacy act.
Michelle Obama - "Lets Move" plan to help battle childhood obesity
Rosalyn Carter - Established council on Mental Health

Those who complain about First Lady Obama is just either stupid or have something against this President. It baffles my mind how ANYONE can complain about anyone battle against childhood obesity. I think the battle should be to educate the parents who feed their children unhealthy foods to make them overweight.

EVERY first lady has/had causes as it is par for the course for being in the White House.

I couldn't care less what special cause the First Last espoused, at least Laura Bush was actually a librarian.
Michelle Obama should stick with secret government activities, socialism 101, & how to hate your white neighbor. That is what she & Obama are all about, not childhood obesity.

Because we all know that EVERYONE'S individual choice is based on a wealth of knowledge, awareness and true understanding of how EVERYONE is abusing his body. Just look at EVERYONE! Don't you see the light and wisdom in his eyes?

What to say of the implications for health care costs that EVERYONE'S "choices" have and that seriously affect...let me think...
EVERYONE!!!!

Never realized this EVERYONE was such a smart guy that he couldn't possibly benefit from learning something about Nutrition and what happens when you ignore it!
But I get it, if it is the "government" that does the reminding...that's a boo-boo in and of itself.

Huge corporations retaining their right to invade the market with poisons, dislocating almost anything healthy... while we take UNINFORMED "personal responsibility" - is NOT.

...and many more (eye rolls).

Maybe; but they do.
So while the custom stays, they have to pick something.
Obama picked and she picked really well.

What does the appropriateness of a First Lady having a political role has to do with the apropriateness of talking about childhood obesity?

Bet you weren't complaining when Laura Bush was doing her thing, were you.
The excuse that Laura Bush was a librarian while Michelle Obama is not a nutritionist is downright infantile and grudgy and you know it.

You don't need a degree in Nutrition to talk about the cause of eating healthy. Do you think that if she had a degree in Nutrition, she would say anything differently? Such as "go have your McDonalds because we will not apologize for our American way of life"?

You probably wish.
