Any ideas on what kind of dog I just got? (miniature, schnauzer)

the first thing i thought of when i saw the picture was a GIANT "deer type" chihuahua...
(chis do come in merle)
those ears the sickle tail and that slightly cheeky look scream "terrier" (which is a very chihuahua look)
the color definatly could be catahoula, BUT the head shape isnt right nor is the build catahoulas are cur ogs, they tend to have a stockier body with a heavier lip (they look like a hound crossed with a pitty)
the body is VERY VERY sighthoundy too...
and theres a bit of "herder gaze" in those eyes...
my guess would be a Whippet or lurcher, mixed with chihuahua and mabe some Aussie cattle dog/Healer, but mostly i see sighthound/chihuahua...
hes slim but not underweight, hes REALY nicely covered which combined with those long legs, definatly got a "runner" in those legs and body...
but the face is very "deer type" chihuahua.
TOOOO CUTE! looks like such a happy little guy!
What she said...and, I love him! He's so "quirky" that he's uber cute. I love his facial expression, markings and his fuzzy coat. I think you did good and look forward to hearing all about him as he settles in.
She's about a year and a half old, based on her teeth. I'd guess she's probably pretty close to full size, maybe 20-25 pounds, she's got webbed feet, and her eyesight is terrible. She runs into pretty much everything, people, trees, walls, you name it. I think she's adorable, I wish my wife felt the same way. I was originally thinking Catahoula as well, but she has such a strange slender build that it's hard to tell. I'm having a hard time containing her, she has learned how to scale an 8' stockade fence, and so she just sorta does what she wants.

Holy cow, that's some good climbing/jumping. Maybe you should start another thread about this. There are a lot of smart people here who have been through lots of different situations with dogs. That's probably how she wound up at the Humane Society in the first place. In the meantime, I wouldn't leave her outside unattended, unless she's on a tie-out, but I wouldn't leave her on a tie-out more than say 15 minutes. And if she's not microchipped, do it now.
What did the vet say about her eyes?
I was thinking maybe cattle dog and Basenji. The coloring really looks like mostly cattle dog but the light weight frame reminds me of the Basenji and the ability to escape since I believe they are quite the escape artists.

I came back to tell you that I love the "frog's legs" picture. Artie does that too. It makes me laugh EVERY TIME -- and we've been together for over five years. Five years of giggles = priceless.
The vet said that they don't see any obvious reasons for her vision issues. she's great at sighting and playing fetch, it may just be she's exceptionally clumsy.
efinatly sighthouny behaviour...they see everything quite clearly and whe you get them on a focus forget it, but the rest of the time they can be quite clumsy.
heres a question, can you get a picture of her feet length of her toes would give a good inication as to breed
but im definatly seeing chihuahua and sighthound with a little bit of something else...probbaly healer/cattle dog or terrier...
LOL, I have one dog who was incredibly clumsy at that age. She jumped up and then fell flat on her back on concrete about 3 times. Would tear down the hall, go to jump over the arm of the couch and just crash into it instead. Why she never broke anything is a mystery to me.
To me she is as beautiful as a Morkie, which is one of the most beautiful animal there is. Take good care of her, she has already been abandoned before...........Give her lots of love and attention, she will repay you triple...........Good luck.
