I just rescued a dog from the humane society, and I've got no idea what kind of dog it it. My wife calls it frankendog. Any ideas on what kind of (mix)breed dog this might be?

Just a guess here, but judging by those markings, possibly a catahoula leopard dog mix? Google images for the breed, and see what you think.

That's what the markings look like to me too. Or possibly Australian Cattle Dog. I can't put my finger on what his body/head/ears remind me of. But he's so cute I can't stand it. I'm assuming he's under a year? And are you calling him Frank?

Are are a bit chihuahuaish. Muzzle looks a little fuzzy too like a terrier. My guess, chihuahua/cattledog/terrier mix.

I honestly thought he looked like a dingo...I'm thinking the other poster has guessed rig. ht...catahoula....mix. He obviously needs a good owner like you. He looks a bit thin. Such a great thing to rescue a dog. Good luck to you.

I think you got it. The dog has erect ears, so he definitely needs to be mixed with a dog whose ears stand up naturally. And chihuahuas definitely do. Also, cattledogs ears are erect too and would help give him the unusual coat markings. The third mix could be anything, but terrier seems about right since I was thinking cairn terrier mix at first because of the markings.

I keep wondering where he got those looong legs from. I wanted to know if he's under a year, because if so he'll fill out and not look so gangly. If he looks like that as an adult, his body shape is almost whippet, ibezan hound (OK, very unlikely I know), or Italian Greyhound, without the deep chest.
Where's Foxywench when you need her?

lol franken dog LOVE LOVE LOVE...

the first thing i thought of when i saw the picture was a GIANT "deer type" chihuahua...
(chis do come in merle)
those ears the sickle tail and that slightly cheeky look scream "terrier" (which is a very chihuahua look)

the color definatly could be catahoula, BUT the head shape isnt right nor is the build catahoulas are cur ogs, they tend to have a stockier body with a heavier lip (they look like a hound crossed with a pitty)

the body is VERY VERY sighthoundy too...

and theres a bit of "herder gaze" in those eyes...

my guess would be a Whippet or lurcher, mixed with chihuahua and mabe some Aussie cattle dog/Healer, but mostly i see sighthound/chihuahua...
hes slim but not underweight, hes REALY nicely covered which combined with those long legs, definatly got a "runner" in those legs and body...
but the face is very "deer type" chihuahua.

TOOOO CUTE! looks like such a happy little guy!
