See the quote under my name.

Most of them outgrow the tendency or learn not to but some eat the weirdest stuff - the kind of things that lead to costly surgeries - for all their lives.

How much does a lab eat? How long will a big bag of dry food last?

Feeding a lab will cost you 1 million dollars. A month. Twice that if they're outside all the time.

On a more serious note, have you looked into the many health problems labs are prone to, especially if they are not bred with great care?

Don't worry, I am getting a mutt (lab mix) and most of the lab problem will be mixed away.

I enjoy playing fetch or frisbee and not having my hand drenched every time I pick up the retrieved object.

IMO, I don't think you are ready for the responsibilities that come with owning a dog. To get an animal to just throw it outside for it's lifetime is not fair to the animal. Dogs are social animals and need companionship and love. You haven't even researched the breed or how much an animal is fed.

you would get a LOT better advice if you were able to articulate exactly what it is you are looking for in a dog.... what qualities?? what personality?? what activity level?? what size??

so far, all you have specified is what looks you like.....
