Our yellow lab is one of the best mannered dogs we have ever owned, but boy oh boy does she shed! We use to have a golden retriever and when it came time to get another dog, I thought that a lab would shed less, but no way she sheds more! They are so loyal and loving.

well the good news is thats a MUTT an the shelters are FULL of those...
AND they come in all kinds of different personalities...

unfortunatly for you however i ont know of a single shelter that would willingly adopt out to someone planning to keep the dog as an "outside pet" or stick the animal outsie if its too rambunctious ect...

but once again LOOK is the TINESTES part of choosing a pet, your PERSONALITY, ENERGY LEVEL ect ALL need to match...
if your someone who likes to go hiking and camping and to the beach ect and want a og that can oinyou getting a og with a calm quiet couch poatoe or unsocial persnality would SUCK...
if our the quiet stay at home sit wathcing tv or reaing a book, having an active energetic dog who NEEDS lots fo excersize itsnt going to work either...
if your a person who likes to have lots fo freins over getting a shy or nervous dog is going to be complerly opposite to what you need ect...

THIS is what everyone is trying to tell you..there are hundere and hunderes of dogs that LOOK like the yellow dog in the picture...however its all USELESS if that dogs personality doesnt suit your lifestyle! and youve still NOT told us why you want a dog, why you feel the need to keep it in the backyard and what kind of lifestyle you have/looking for in a dog!

Youll never know, its impossible to tell, theres probably 10+ different dogs that have gone into making that particular dog and most of them were probably also mutts of varying degrees...
Id say lab, terrier of some kind and from the long legs and ears possibly some of the hound group too!

Our dog, was a lab mix, golden retriver, shepard, who knows? He was a great dog though. Colonel. He preferred adults to kids. What annoys me, is folks who get a dog, leave it outside all the time, but expect the dog to have perfect manners. Hello, it is called "training". That means, spending time with your dog. Taking your dog places. Don't buy a lab, thinking it will be a great family dog, if you don't train the dog.

And. Colonel, was a mutt, we found him, running feral in the hills one day, no tag, no collar, we took him home, he was starving. So, he was not a puppy, and who knows what his background was...no one claimed him, we put an ad in the paper...

He wanted to be a good dog though. He worked at pleasing everyone. That was the key element. He was easy to train, because he wanted to be...not like our Elkhound, who really felt she was much smarter than us, and could care less what we said.

I like that yellow dog because it's not weird looking, kinda look like a yellow lab, and it's smaller than a lab.
