Two puppies, brother and sister showed up on our property a couple of months ago. They are part pit and may be hard to place. No one has shown any interest in them. They are both very sweet dogs. They are going to SpayOK tomorrow. Daughter wants them to go together to be adopted, but it seems she may be falling for them and they will stay with us. We have 3 abandoned dogs since November............and we are cat people!! Taking a cat to be spayed tomorrow too!
Puppies are doing fine. Our little brindle boy does not like being confined in a carrier in the bathroom. His sis is in the crate above him. The vet listed her as part border collie. She is a very quiet little lady. The cat escaped my grip after she bit my thumb. She hid in my room all day, not eating or drinking. I think she has forgiven me for now. We will try again on Tuesday!
The puppies need to be confined for 72 hours. They have pain medication. We take them out on a leash every few hours.
They are confined because they are recovering from their neutering. We need our cats to be safe as well. Both puppies are playing together outside right now. The female's incision looks like it is healing nicely. They have one more day on pain medication so we will bring them back in tonight. It is going to be very cold tonight and confinment makes it easier to give them their medicine.
I have a question about the puppies. How long will they continue to chew up everything? Jake got a hold of 2 dogs toys and shredded them. He shredded a nylon dog leash. Last week he chewed his sister's collar off and proceeded to shred it! They are about 9 months old now. Cats are so much easier to raise!
Honestly, I think they will continue to chew things until they are trained not to. They need to learn which items are theirs for chewing and which are contraband. That's what we call it in our house.
Glad you took them in. Be careful w/ the cat bite, they can be very dangerous (to humans). PUppies do like to chew, once they're better from their spaying/neutering, you might want to puppy proof one room (a laundry room etc) if you rather gate them than crate them, just to make sure they're not chewing what they shouldnt be chewing. We sometimes put ours in an exercise pen (ex-pen) overnite and if we go out for any length of time, their beds are there and they have toys and get a treat when they go in and are fine w/ it (they're small dogs). I was criticized recently for suggesting Bitter Apple or Yuck but it's a good deterrent if they tend to chew your sneakers or toes etc - it works best when wet so you may have to reapply often - I prob. wouldnt trust it 100% but it might give them pause before chomping. Exercise helps too but of course you cant exercise them right now, given they were just spayed/neutered, good you're taking them out for frequent walks now. That too, shall pass. Thx again for helping them and the kitty(s).
