Thank you very much for all the response. Actually, my husband has started to give them more since the ice cream shop started to give us a scoop just for them. So thank to you, we now give them a very small amount (an empty cup to lick).

Yeah chocolate will kill your dog if they get too much, be careful.
How awful!!

I too have heard that onions are not good for dogs.

I dont think that is true. I think it would be Dangerous in Large amounts. I have always given my Dogs a little piece here and there and it has never bothered them but never in large amounts. Even a little makes them need to go outside.............

I don't think it's the actual amount of chocolate that's the problem, but a particular chemical in the cocoa that's poisonous. a dog could survive after eating a a Hershey's bar but possibly keel over after eating the exact same amount of bittersweet cocoa.

my aunt's dog (a 20lb+ cocker spaniel mix) died in the 90's after it got into the pure, unsweetened chocolate may aunt kept in the pantry (She's a cook and prefers to add her own amount of milk and sweetener to the chocolate). the dog only ate a small chunk (smaller than a deck of cards if I remember correctly), but died that evening in her sleep.

oh, ETA: I found the link on Wikipedia about the chemical and chocolate poisoning: Theobromine poisoning - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stop feeding them chocolate. It's bad for them in any dose. It's "deadly" in large doses.
