im an impulsive idiot when it comes to the wellbeing of my pets...id get them out or die trying...
because in 100% complete honesty, my animals are quite literally the reson I get out of bed in the mornings most days...
I suffer form depression and anxiety disorders among other things...
if I didn't try...I wouldn't be able to live with myself...

Yes..

I would be lying to say I'd save a person before my dog.

I would definitely try to go back in and get my family member (our dog is our family)!

What would be interesting to know is if the person would have been charged if he had tried to go back in after a human family member and did the same thing?

I have no kids. Just my gf and my dogs.
I would have done the exact same thing & give the finger to the judge.

Qudos to this man for sticking up for a member of his family. No scrub police officer would ever understand unless they have a dog themself.

The dogs would be far more likely able to get out (since they are not confined) than my toddler or baby.

Bust open one downstairs door and the dogs are out.

When we got home and the front apartment was on fire in our triplex, as soon as the car stopped I ran back for my cat. A fireman followed me but there was no smoke and it hadn't hit anything but the garage, but I found my cat. For me, my pets are family. I like dogs and cats more than people.

Last spring my stepdad started a fire in the living room. I heard him yell FIRE FIRE and the smoke alarm go off. It was 1030 pm and I was almost asleep. I jumped out of bed with my lady bug at my feet. I saw the fire ran back to the bedroom grabbed my phone and called 911. My bug had run back to the bedroom and hid under the bed. My stepdad was disabled and couldn't get off the hospital bed. I was able to get the fire out with several pitchers of water. Scariest 30 minutes of my life. If I hadn't got that fire out my stepdad would have died. It was a trailer house that was VERY old. I always had a plan in case he started a fire. That was NOT my plan it was pure instinct. Thankfully we were all ok. My stepdad died in his sleep about a month later. My bug was just fine. I would save any of my babies without a doubt. They are my world and yea they give me reasons for living that my humans just can't. BTW I was the caretaker of my mom who passed in April and then stayed and was my stepdad's caretaker until he passed in June. That is why I was at his house.
