Sometimes they have to, but desperately don't want to . Old age, poor health, divorce, having to move into a place that doesn't allow animals, losing a job, and even death. And the list goes on. It's heartbreaking for both the humans, and the pets. But it can be a real blessing for the animals, and their new pet parents.
The little mutt was never trained and is afraid of a lot, he was heartworm positive, and does not know what toys are for. The pure bred was definitely trained and loved before we got him, and he must have been expensive, yet he was rescued from a urine soaked apartment, infested with fleas. It’s hard to imagine what happened.
Dixie struck again yesterday, but I didn't get a picture. One of those evil little ground squirrels. Such a sweet dog, such a vicious killer!
At first glance I thought you were going to say that Dixie "got struck again" by a rattler . Glad I was wrong, not awake yet. It takes me all day to get going. And then I taper off, lol. What was that thing she caught in that photo of yours? It had a rat like tail, but I couldn't make out the head. What a mighty hunter.

Anyway, we try to make up for the bad times.
Their stories reminds me of the classic book Black Beauty. How the horse went from a wonderful, loving home to gradually worse, and worse homes till at the end was found again by a kind soul from his past to live out his days in peace. It makes me cry just thinking about it. But your rescues must think they died, and went to heaven .
That is a big ol' pack rat. It's darn near the size of her whole head. Click on the picture, it will open in a new window, click again and it enlarges.
Very kuel! Youtube has lots of great ratting videos. One of my favorite channels has a mink/dog rat hunting duo. They hire themselves out as rat exterminators. They are fun to watch. Yeah, I know I'm weird, but what can ya do, lol. Good dawg!!!

Missed out on the picture. It was on of those evil ground squirrels with the stripes. Jolly Well Done!
No Jeep ride tonight. First time in a very long time I didn't take them.
Oh rats, missed the thrill of victory! Such mighty hunters they are. Did they give you the sad eyes for leaving them behind?
