We are in the KC metro, and my SO just took our recently adopted dog to the vet for his annual rabies shot and because we'd run through the few-month supply of heartworm meds we got from the refuge when we got him.
The last time I was a dog owner, I lived rurally, and I assumed the urban-suburban vets would charge sky high. But our total bill for an office visit, rabies vaccine, and Heartgard was $40 total. We had budgeted much more. There may have been a discount since he's a rescue. I'll have to ask my boyfriend.
$40-$50 for an exam/see the vet. I've noticed that the exam fee is usually waived if we have other work done (tests, shots, etc). I like going to this vet clinic even though it's probably 20 minutes away on the other side of Chicago.
I've also gone back to the shelter we adopted our first dog at because they have a clinic. I believe their prices were around $35 for the visitation fee, regardless of what other work is done. We stopped going there because it was just too far of a suburb (past Midway airport).
Charlotte NC : $56 for exam well or sick, vaccines $24, 2nd pet discount.
