To be 100% sure, I'd definitely give YOUR (John1960) vet a call, and ask about dosage... the web has lots of mis-information, and this is your dog we're talking about - not worth taking a chance!
And to answer the original question, my dog is also extremely touchy about his injuries!! He's never bitten me, but he will snap his head back & pretend like he's going to bite. I had a HORRID time when he had a dog-bite recently (moron picked a fight with a pitbull
), which required antibiotic cream... and when he had an eye infection, it took all the strength I could muster to get those drops in! Anyway, I agree with the suggestion of touching him a lot while he's calm, which is what I try to do with my pooch. Also, have you ever watched "The Dog Whisperer?" He's dealt with these problems a lot, and has some great suggestions on how to handle it... you should watch his show (on DVD or National Geographic Channel), or pick up a copy of his book.
