Hi, It's weird but my dog has never got along with other dogs or people. I have her is a fence in half acre lot and she also lives in the house with me. She has never has been out of this area only to the vet for past care. She not alone because I have another female dog that she has grown up with from the dog pound. I live in the city. The dog pound told me I'm one in a thousand that would have excellent living conditions for my dogs. Where I live most people chain their dogs up.

Thanks, John

My dogs have a very large fenced area and also the whole house-lol. John1960, thats great you dont chain the dog. That is not a good thing in the summer. I have seen people leave the dog out in the heat (called animal protection service). People need to be educated that dogs cannot be chained and neglected. Especially older dogs- they can be attacked by coyotes here in Tenn

To be 100% sure, I'd definitely give YOUR (John1960) vet a call, and ask about dosage... the web has lots of mis-information, and this is your dog we're talking about - not worth taking a chance!

And to answer the original question, my dog is also extremely touchy about his injuries!! He's never bitten me, but he will snap his head back & pretend like he's going to bite. I had a HORRID time when he had a dog-bite recently (moron picked a fight with a pitbull ), which required antibiotic cream... and when he had an eye infection, it took all the strength I could muster to get those drops in! Anyway, I agree with the suggestion of touching him a lot while he's calm, which is what I try to do with my pooch. Also, have you ever watched "The Dog Whisperer?" He's dealt with these problems a lot, and has some great suggestions on how to handle it... you should watch his show (on DVD or National Geographic Channel), or pick up a copy of his book.
