If we run out of oil and go to war over..then who knows what will happen and what the world powers will be in 50 yrs. But...
If everything is cool it won't matter who the superpowers are because the world will have a one world economy. China/India ect. won't be a threat cuz they need us to buy their export crap. The U.S. won't be a threat cuz all they'd have to do is cut us off from their export crap.
World Superpowers are sooo 1980's

I voted China, only because of it's sheer numbers in population and the fact that they are already a superpower. The US will remain one also. My wife(who is currently getting her EMBA) thinks that India is a fast riser on that front.

Russia is in a demographic meltdown. Their population is going to decrease from the current 141 million down to 100 million in the next 40 years. They will be a nation of old people with few young. How does a country becomes a superpower with an aging shrinking population?
Even with the current problems the US is experiencing I believe the US will be the top superpower in 40 years. Geographic location, a large navy and superior military, growing population, progressive immigration and a history of overcoming long odds favors the US.

The rich are moving their money to China while the GOP reduces the middle class to a third world workforce barely able to shop at WALMART. We have been betrayed

I think India will be more powerful than most think 40 years from now, and China will be less powerful than most think 40 years from now, but the US will still be the most powerful country, but the gap will continue to shrink such that no country is a "world superpower."
As one has said, 40 years is a really long time and I think 1 or 2 of the BRIC countries will be a complete bust, and honestly it could be any of the four, but I would argue Russia is the most likely, followed by Brazil.
