I just saw an ad on TV saying that Safelite windshield replacement was hiring, and that people could build a career with the company over time.

I was riding the water taxi in Florida a few weeks ago. One of the workers was tying off the boat, checking people in, and selling snacks. For much of the ride she stood by the rail on the bow and soaked up the sun. I thought to myself this wouldn't be such a bad way to spend the day, looking at beautiful scenery, talking to mostly happy people, and enjoying nice weather while getting paid. I talked to her later and she told me that she had been logging the hours and had recently taken and passed her captain's exam. She hadn't thought about doing it earlier but had some extra time on her hands during COVID so figured why not. All the hours working on the boat counted toward one of the key requirements which is hours on a vessel. She will soon be starting a new role as a Captain and getting paid a lot more still doing what she enjoys. Opportunities are everywhere. Many don't follow a traditional path or require a college degree.

Finding work for an unmotivated person can take time.
