*sigh* If only we could overtake that economic juggernaut, Nigeria. I guess those 419 scams must be working for them after all.

Don't get me wrong, I'm genuinely happy that our economy appears to be finally on the mend.

However, we're merely the best looking turd in a pile of ****.

In addition, I would also note that these are projections, and we all know how good the IMF, the World Bank, etc. are at making accurate projections. I mean I think it was only a few months ago that I read that the IMF stated that they never saw the Global Financial Crisis coming in the months leading up to it.

The economy is just one piece of the puzzle. I like to look at the overall quality of life:

I always knew the U.S would bounce back after tough times, sure the economy has changed since the past.

The U.S economy is too diverse and important to never improve again, it is say one trick pony that relies on oil and gas where it is at the mercy prices.

As for quality of life, the U.S ranks just #4 according to United Nations Human Development Index, only Norway, Australia and Netherlands rank higher.

Forty years ago the USA would have not just topped that list, it would have topped it by a big, big margin. We had basically the same population mix back then. The difference is we have slipped in education and systematically strangled our middle class. (Odd that what's left of the middle class cheers for more of the same.)

And before anyone tries to turn this into a partisan battle, here is a picture that shows everything we need to know about the federal government today:
