Persons not in the labor force include those aged 16 years and older in the civilian non-institutional population who are neither employed nor unemployed.
you do have many that retired counted though . boomers are retiring at the rate of 10,000 a day and effect the participation rate.
A new batch of people has been moving out of the "working years" 25-54 cohort every year for quite a long time. 25-54 is where the LFPR is high. It's considerably lower on either side. And retirement has long been the number one reason reported across the board for not being in the labor force. The next three reasons score about equally -- illness, school, and home responsibilities. These are significant, the sum of the three having accounted for about 20% more people than "retired" as of 2014.
We have a large population of children aged 15 years and under as well, but NONE of them is included in persons not in the labor force. Meanwhile, about 18% of the 16-and-up non-institutional population is aged 65 or older, while about 16% is in the 55-64 cohort. 50% are 25-54, 7% are 16-19, and 9% are 20-24.
Amazing how spoiled Americans are, that think that any small move on the economy is a "Great depression"

The site does have the usual banner ads that appeal to outraged idiots, and they sure don't hide the fact that ad clicks power their revenue stream. Click here!
Where are these stats that 95 Million Americans are out of work? If that is the case wouldn't we be in a Depression by now?
