Middle class? Like where the median HHLD income is or around there? 60-70k and getting 1mm is only life improving not changing? Even in the 100k or higher range, life changing still applies and to think otherwise is complete nonsense. Paying off one’s house and having funds left over for other things like new cars and retirement/college savings is life changing not some simple “improvement” of a better car or better food options.
As describe above. Pay off a house, buy a car...usual life a bit better and goes on...
Granted, if one takes all that money and properly invests it, life could be substantially improved at retirement time and/or for their kids.

Sorry a paid off house a paid off new car and additional savings aren’t imo a simple improvement or a “bit better” eliminating your mortgage, car payments and having additional savings should be life changing for most Americans

See how your life is after paying off your house. If middle class, you are improved. If you started out poor and didn't manage yourself properly and remained lucky enough over the term, you inherited all sorts of extra costs and expenses.
Is no longer having a mortgage payment life changing? I guess it depends on what you do with that money that would normally go towards the monthly payments. I would probably buy a second home somewhere I'm thinking. So yeah that seems fairly life changing.

You can keep talking in circles but for most in the US and even more so around the world, getting a million bucks dropped in their lap is life changing, not just improvement but absolutely changing.

Until they blow it all and wind up right back where they started, as do ~70% of lotto winners.
It's nice to think of it as life changing, but for most it will at best be a several year euphoria that still ends with them right back to needing a job they don't like to put food on the table and bills they can barely pay.

You can wreck a Bugatti after I give it to you but that doesn’t change what the gift was.

Of course it very much depends on your current financial status and how you handle the money. But it will not move you to life styles of the rich and famous.
