Look! It's not about really how much the field trip costs. It's about the fact that overnight or longer field trips in elementary schools should not be allowed until your child is in a higher grade other than elementary and he or she is more responsible. Schools apparently forget that the child may no longer be a baby, but they are not an adult either. In this period of time, they are still youngsters that still need nurturing, protection and structure. A lot of children are not ready to be away from their parents at a long period of time, aside from the fact that they only know their teacher as a teacher and nothing else. In this day and age, there is no such thing as being to cautious about your child....

When I was in elementary school, our big trip in 5th grade was to Williamsburgh. I'm from NJ. We took a bus and stayed for 4 days. There were 3 kids and one adult in each room and our days were packed with activities. Even our principal came.
Now that I'm a teacher, I would never want to be responsible for kids that age for more than a day trip.
Why do people think their children can not be trusted? If you truely love your children you would LET them have the responsibility of that. Also, why would your children ruin that for themselves when they could be having a good time? Tell Me:P
