Long article in the WAPO that analyzes some of the personal reasons Obama is having so much difficulty at this stage. His elusive personality has prevented him from cultivating the kind of personal and professional relationships required in any succeessful politician, let alone POTUS.
Enigmatic, Sphinx-like, self-centered to the point of being egotistical, cool to the point of being cold, ideologically inconsistant, tone-deaf to others' needs, Obama failed to connect with people and lay the kind of support foundation that came naturally to Bill Clinton and GWB. Consequently, now that he needs help, few are willing to go out on a limb for him.
Nobody in Washington likes Obama, except his family and his dog, and he doesn't seem to care.
They aren't going out on a limb for him because their own political butts are in a sling if he goes down on Election Day. But, you know, if Democrats don't campaign for him it's obviously because they are racists.
Of course the Washington Post would rather blame it on personality than his policies.

Yeah, it couldn't have anything to do with the fact that he lied about nearly everything that he said he would do on the campaign trail ...
