They do realize, that majority Catholic states like Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire all reconize same-sex marriage.

A recent poll show 63% of Massachusetts voters support gay marriage, and about 55% of the state is Catholic, second only to Rhode Island.

So was allowing mixed race marriages, Female Suffrage, and Emancipation.
