Republicans Uniting To Support Chunks Of ‘Obamacare’ | TPMDC

Boehner and McConnell are coming up with contingency plans to tell the public they intend to retain the most popular features of Obamacare, in the event the SCOTUS tosses the law. This includes coverage for Pre-existing conditions, 26 yr olds on parents' policies, and closing the doughnut hole.

But wait... I thought Obamacare was socialism???

No worries- it's just an election year BLUFF Without the individual mandate, there is no way for the GOP to PAY for these goodies.

But, this IS evidence the GOP realizes blind opposition to Obamacare may cost them votes with the thinking public (which leaves out most their base, but includes Independents).

Obamacare is essentially the GOP health care proposal from a few years ago. The differences are merely cosmetic.

Exactly. The Obama health care plan is a republican plan that they have been trying to get passed for years, and Willard did so at the state level. The GOP are just throwing a pissy fit because Obama was able to finally get it passed and not them, plus to simply troll and blame Obama when in actuality they support it.

Exactly. The only difference is that when the GOP proposes an idea it's brilliant to the morons who are given their opinion by the right wing blogs and talk radio. When a democrat tries to introduce it, it's socialism.

It's hard to put into words how stupid it is that the guy running for office for the Republican Party basically passed the equivalent to what people call 'Obamacare' already.

It's unfortunate that the Republican Party has been brought to this point of ignorance and stupidity. Conservatism is great, but what conservatism is in the US is a mess.

I've said for a long time that Boehner is simply the Dems version of Pelosi. Why the parties allow complete imbecile's like these two to run their agenda's is one of life's great mystery's.

Boehner can't pay for his suggestions and nobody is going to support it until it can be.

This is precisely the reason the GOP fought tooth and nail to try to keep this bill from being passed. They knew only too well that once people realized all of the beneficial stuff in it, they would never want to repeal it. And more importantly, Americans would know full well which party is looking out for their interests, and it's definitely not the GOP. And what they feared most has come to pass--people LIKE many of the provisions in Obamacare and don't want to lose them. Thus, the mad GOP scramble...

The countries views on Obamacare has not changed.

Yes, when they are asked whether they support "Obamacare," per se. The name has a lot of negative baggage attached to it. However, when the bill is broken out into it's various components, the numbers tell a different story:

"Polling shows that 58 percent of Americans dislike Obamacare when it is packaged together and called Obamacare. This could be due to actual dislike of the law, or to Republican politicians crafting a narrative about the largest health care change since the institution of Medicare.

It appears to be tied to the narrative, more than the facts when looking at the numbers when aspects of Obamacare are broken down."

Polling Shows People Support Majority of Obamacare Parts, Oppose Law | Double Dip Politics

If this wasn't so, why would the GOP be looking for ways to keep pieces of it should the SC knock the law down?
