It really galls you liberals anytime someone finds a way to do something for themselves without having to depend upon the government doesn't it?

Nah, what's galling is the self-Righteous twits too stupid to understand everyone's parents aren't in a position to make six figures loans/gifts to their children.

Well here is a novel concept for those of us who have parents who cannot give a gift or a loan for college.........get a JOB and pay YOUR OWN WAY THROUGH. Wow, what an idea, not an "easy" way to go and takes a bit longer however, if you time your day properly you should be able to work 8 hours, go to school at least 5 or 6 hours, get all your studies completed on time AND carry a 3.99 GPA like I did and I took student loans and just last week paid the last loan IN FULL without any financial gifts or loans from anyone.

Did I mention I had 3 children ages 7, 5 and newborn, a house, laundry, supper, activities for the children a husband, cleaning, yard work, volunteering at school, etc. etc.????

Cry me a river if you cannot find a way to pay your own way through college without the government handing you a check for a grant that does not have to be paid back. I paid back with interest every penny I borrowed from the government and I actually used ALL of the loan money for school related items. If I had money left over after everything I needed for classes I returned it to the government and got credit against my loan.

I don't think RMoney realized not every American is born with a golden spoon in their mouth. Some (most) of us have to work hard to go to college and with the rising costs of college, still need to rely on student loans to make it happen. But when daddy cuts you a check each semester for school you tend to not think about the struggles of your peers.

Quite frankly I think it would be a good thing if some kids couldnt afford to go to college for two reasons:

1. One of the reasons tuition is so ridiculously expensive is because of the push that everyone must go to college, and the drive to create all of these student loans. The demand for a college education is being artificially increased by a huge amount, while the price sensitivity is being completely eliminated by loans, giving schools the ability to increase their tuition every year knowing that the loans are government backed and guaranteed.

2. We are graduating so many kids with meaningless degrees that are $40k+ in debt that are facing the prospect of not finding a job at all, or only finding jobs that pay minimal salaries, not enough to pay back their loans in any reasonable amount of time.

Let the kids that cant afford college either go to some sort of much less expensive trade school, or just start working right out of high school. They will start in a much better financial position (ie. no debt, but a lower salary) and I'm sure there is a need for many qualified jobs that don't require a college degree such as plumbers, electricians and other service type careers that pay very well. We don't need to try and send every single kid in this country to college, it doesn't make sense no matter how nice it sounds.

Actually any decent paying job these days requires some form of college degree, it is more important for our country to keep up with the rest of the world when it comes to education. I am all for putting off college instead of going straight out of high school. I took several years off and went to college for something I wanted to do in life, I still have a debt from it, but I am on a path to pay that back.

But that doesn't change the fact of how fast college tuition has gone up, public colleges are beginning to out price students. I do think there should be more programs available through non-profits and the government that allow students straight out of high school to choose different programs that they can do for two years and it gives them four years worth of college tuition at a public college.

I think it is important for the future of our country to keep up with the education levels of the rest of the world. The last thing I want to see is our country getting passed by in education compared to other countries.

Sure, everyone should get as much education as possible, but not at the current grossly inflated costs for doing so. It is much more important to the stability of our country that we don't have millions of people that are eyeball deep in student loan debt meaning they cant contribute to the economy or save money than it is to have a bunch of people with huge debt and an "education" in a field that does not contribute any value back to our society.
