In all fairness, if you believe in straight-down-the-line conservatism, then yes...he was the best choice. That's a principled choice whether anyone likes it or not.

Not the guy if you want to win, which i realize is a different matter altogether. If you're gonna make a vote based on principle alone and you're a conservative Republican, then yes..Perry makes sense.

Certainly he is far to the right of middle and yes, he was probably the most conservative candidate with the views of many candidates, plus he and Newt, as well, had beliefs on immigration that I liked. I am to the right on many issues, as most know. On soical issues it depends, but when it comes to amnesty, I know something has to be done. We can not and are not going to send 11 to 20 mil people back to the countries they come from.

Perry is FAR right socially, he is a bigot and all about shoving his far right religious views into the laws. He would have been absolutely demolished, I wanted Perry to win the GOP nomination because of how easy it would have been.

Nope, and anyone thinking that we are needs to be committed to a mental ward. It's never gonna happen. So you may as well be practical about it.

First, please excuse me for taking your entire quote out of context, but I do hope you and others know that Perry, either self proclaimed conservative or not, railed against federal stimulus money, but then accepted it and used it.
IMO, he didn't hold to his conservative beliefs or values on that issue. If I wanted to dig around the internet, I could probably find more things that he made statements about, but then reversed himself.

PolitiFact Texas | President Obama says Gov. Perry used stimulus fund to help balance budget, then started 'blaming' federal lawmakers who voted for legislation

How is that holding true to conservative beliefs?

Turns out Obama didn't need to face the GOP's JV (Perry) for an easy win.

LOL...well, it isn't. But then, being a "true conservative" is relative. Look at the clowns he stood next to at those Republican debates and then put it in context.

Reagan was a true conservative in 1980....he doesn't look all that conservative nowadays, does he?
