In March 2008 then Sen Barack Obama said "I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not. He put us on a fundamentally different path." And as President, he clearly want to be for the left what Reagan was for the right--a transformational figure.

One of the weaknesses of the Reagan revolution was that he didn't really leave a successor. I think there are reasons for this that were out of Reagan's control, but still it did mute his long term impact. HW Bush was never the true believer that Reagan was. After all he famously called Reagan's fundamental econ beliefs as "voodoo economics."

I am convinced that Pres. Obama was and probably still is, a true believer lefty lib. You can see it in some of his early Chicago period writings that have been exhumed by writer Stanley Kurtz. Given that, he has to be asking himself right now, how is he going to do what Reagan failed to do, and keep the ball rolling.

Hillary is also a true believer progressive, but I just don't think she's going to run. She'll be 69, and she has had a rough go of it as sec'y of state. She didn't even want the job, but Obama talked her into it. Stick a fork in her, she's done. She said she was tired of the 20 hour days in 2008, so how much more so in 2016?

Joe Biden probably wants it, but he is no true believer. He's the guy who got the job because he's a schmoozer, constantly angling to get himself in the right place at the right time. Corey Booker disqualified himself when he spoke up for Bain Capital in 2012. What true believer would do that.

Who else is there? Michelle Obama. She's a gifted speaker. She has a degree from Harvard Law School. She knows the 'Chicago way' inside and out, having grown up as the daughter of a Chicago politico. Why not? The husband-to-wife baton hand-off has been done before, in other countries.

I'm hoping that by 2016, Obama will have been tried for treason against the United States of America and not be holding any baton to pass on.

Guess Michele could practice "voodoo" economics and "voodoo" everything else with the help of her mother who I believe is in residence at the White House still. Or, maybe by 2016 it will be so bad that it won't matter who gets in office because the damage will be beyond repair?

Pfffffffffffftttttttttttttt.

I suppose I can see why lwnjs might think she's qualified. They have extremely low standards. Obviously.

I have seen this mentioned a couple of times but I really do not see this at all. First of all, I think, by the time 2016 gets here they will both be tired of politics. I think Michelle loves the attention, the perks, and the glory that goes with being first lady, but I do not think she likes the politics, In fact I don't think Obama likes being Pres. I think it like the perks and all the attention, but not his job.

If being married to the POTUS is your only real claim to being qualified to be POTUS yourself you've already lost.

that would be another reason for her not to even consider running; she has absolutely no experience. I am married to a PR guy (or he was) and he was a writer as well. I am certainly not qualified to do either and he would make a crappy real estate agent or a travel consultant.

The joke about the Obamas being left-wing made my day-hilarious. Since the Obama administration has continued promoting Reaganite ideology, including (at first) DOMA, the Patriot Act, implementing a right-wing/pro capitalist/AEI health care system instead of single payer, doing nothing while labour is attacked (he did help save some union jobs so that's a point in his favour, but he didn't champion the Employee Free Choice Act), and allowing public sector jobs to drop by some 800,000+, I would not vote for her as she would likely continue these conservative initiatives.

oh for heavens sake, first of all you are saying the Obama's have done thus and so, there is only one Obama in office. As for health care, he couldn't even get the Democrats to go along with what he wanted. He had no choice but to sign what was finally presented to him. What do you think the President can do about labor and what does the patriot act have to do with Reagan? Only someone that is very far to the left, which I believe you have indicated you are, would put find much that Obama and Reagan had in common.

Now if you couldn't vote for Michelle, you think Obama has followed Reagan's policies, which the examples you give were not Reagan's doings and you don't think he is left at all, who would you support?

If the phone rings at 3:00A in the White House do you really want Hillary Clinton to answer it? She's had one shot at being an executive and she showed she was incompetent, a liar and had no idea what was going on under her.

Jeez Louise and if Michelle Obama became President we'll all be eating tofu. That's her White House experience - lunch lady and traveler with zero executive experience like her husband. But give her credit. She has never indicated she thinks she's qualified for the job.

Don't the Democrats have any decent governors? What about Senator and former Governor Joe Manchin from West Virginia?

Didn't endorse Obama in 2012
co-sponsored a balanced budget amendment
voted against raising the debt ceiling
advocated for substantial reduced federal spending
He thinks the EPA over-reaches
he's for an all-in energy plan.
He supported the Keystone Pipeline.
He wants Afghanistan to go away.
He's pro-life.
He is of course, pro-coal
AND, according to Wikipedia he was ranked the 2nd most bipartisan Senator in the Democrat Caucus by Congressional Quarterly
AND who could forget his gun ad when he first ran for office? (Yes, I recall his recent dust - up with the NRA.)
AND he actually has executive experience.

Dead Aim - Joe Manchin for West Virginia TV Ad - YouTube

I always wanted him to change parties. I could vote for him over most of the Republicans.
