Switched to Independent after 2012(~January 2014). Just didn't like the direction the party was going.
Also there were(still are) some topics I disagree with.

I still voted republican last year, but when I could I voted for a independent.

Yesterday I was a small 'el' libertarian. Today I am a BIG 'L' libertarian. Republicans should go home so they can deny the doom facing the country.

I was a Democrat, then I switched to Republican. Both parties have let me down. Now I am an Independent.

The chart misses the Independent to Democrat, so I selected Other.

Raised in a house with one R and one D. Cast my first 2 votes for Reagan. Worked on the Mike Dukakis campaign. Voted for Clinton both times. Didn't vote for either Gore or Bush in 2000. After 2001, I started listening to a Libertarian talk show host and started reassessing my values after seeing the hypocrisy, thinly veiled racism of the democratic party and the infiltration of socialist doctrine into the democratic party. I align more closely with the fiscal and social values of the R platform, but find both parties are corrupt and the candidates they run are based on retaining the power of the party and not on doing anything that would actually reflect the vision of the founders. As a result, I tend to vote R, rather than D, but I have not had much passion for any candidate for Federal office and I have only worked on behalf of a few State office candidates on the R side.

Basically, we are being used by politicians that are actively seeking to divide us, so we can spend all our time fighting with each other so we won't focus on what they are doing to destroy our freedoms.

Clearly, as you can see from the poll results here, that most people switch from Republican to Democrat (like I did three years ago). This is one of my previously stated reasons as to why a Democrat will win the election in 2016, along with numerous other reasons. The U.S. is now a center left nation.
