Yes, when he ran as a Libertarian he received less than 1/2 of 1%. So, I guess he decided to trade in his ideals for political expediency.

Since he obviously won't be the Republican nominee. The only question that remains is will he run as a third party?

Btw, Noahma if you care about a women's right to chose, Ron Paul's position of overturning Roe v Wade would, in sending it back to the states, make abortion illegal in about half the states. Perhaps that's what you want, if that's the case support RP.

Upton,
I truly meant what I said, cmon..get on board!!
Bush has betrayed our trust. Hillary is not going in another direction either..especially with the war..McCain,Huckabee,Romney,Guilliani,and especially Obama, all alll of them going down that road with the Nafta expansion and everything else..RFID!!!!!
This is not a democrat or a republican issue.

Please know that there is NO SUCH thing as a perfect candidate, but Ron Paul is as close as I believe we can get.
The other part of that is that we need to unite, for if we do not, then all you have is what the enemy wants, and that is, a bunch of distracted people who argue while they pass all those new laws they see fit for us...
I implore you to join us!!!!!!

Ron Paul 2008 — Hope for America

Gretchen, thanks but no thanks. Though, I appreciate your kindness shown towards me, I'm a die hard Democrat. I prefer Obama, but I will vote for the Democratic nominee.

Your idealism is great. Unfortunately, in today's politics, it's all about reality and that means the lesser of two evils.

People like the seclusionist stance he has and why I don't know. This will only make matters worse if we run from the worlds' troubles and lock our borders. Welcome to China People...

You know StromThurmond was a Democrat as well as Robert Byrd a clansman. So why do you just Paul just because there is an R next to his name. Libertarians are much much closer to republicans than democrats.

Free trade and diplomacy is hardly seclusionist or isolationist. Read RP's writings and you'll see that he feels the outrage against illegal immigration derives from the weakening economy where people feel threatened. He feels the law should be enforced and illegals shouldn't be afforded welfare benefits which encourage some to come and have anchor babies... but at the same time he has said that we need to increase the number of legal immigrants that we allow in the country.

Strom Thurmond switched to the Republicans in 1964. Apparently they were much more in keeping with his segregationist ideals. Remember LBJ was pushing through the Civil Rights Act at the time.

I'm a Democrat because I care about such things as the environment. Private industry has a horrendous track record, when left to their own devices. They need to be regulated.

well upton since you are a diehard democrat i wouldnt expect you to like ron paul.most libertarians are former republicans and most libertarians have more in common with the republicans then the democrats.i agree ron paul is a republican and i guess he would too as he is running as one.i dont object to anything you've revealed nor did you reveal anything i didnt know already.its a little silly though to act as if all members of a particular party all agree on everything though.david duke, former kkk leader, ran for president one year as a democrat....i assume you wouldnt have supported him just because he was running as a democrat.since you are such a diehard democrat perhaps you could start a thread telling us exactly what obama 'does' believe since while he seems like a smart, nice man he seems to speak mostly in broad feel good platitudes without really saying what or how he is going to do anything.im glad paul wants to drill for oil,its not going to come out of the earth by itself and hes not running for the nomination of the 'green 'party.i dont think youve revealed anything to ron paul supporters that they didnt already know.

He not only wants to drill, he wants to drill in ANWR and as close as 3 miles off our shores. The fossil fuel industry has had a poor environmental record wherever they drill.

Over a quarter of a million gallons were spilled at Prudhoe Bay in 2006. Why open ANWR to more of the same?

You might also remember the Exxon Valdez, thousands of animals died, including up to a half a million seabirds, along with seals, bald eagles, otters, and the destruction of an estimated billions of salmon eggs. The oil can still be found on Alaska's beaches almost 20 years later. To put it simply it was an environmental disaster.

And you and Ron Paul want to trust these irresponsible fools to drill only 3 miles from our shores?
