I've been hearing rumors that the "oath" or "pledge" Republican candidates took early in the election season is null and void. The pledge had to do with all the Republican candidates supporting the final nominee of the GOP for president. It seems some of the candidates have vowed not to support this or that frontrunner in the race.

Can anyone give me more credible information?

What I've been hearing are rumors.

If the GOP does not unite for the nominee, how do they expect to win the election in November?

The GOP rather hand election to Hillary. It keeps the status quo. And the GOP can sit back for 8 more years and criticize everything Clinton does.

The GOP is happy as long as Cruz and Trump are far from the white house. Win or lose.

It sure seems like the pledge is dead since pretty much everyone has come out to trash Trump.
The GOP despises Trump and hates Cruz. What are they afraid of?

I'm really sick of the petty attacks that do absolutely nothing to promote any ideas from any of the candidates and does nothing but serve to further divide the Republican party within itself and distance itself from the average Joe voter.

Hillary is hacking and cackling right now over all this nonsense from the chaos in the GOP and she is being handed the oval office.

Okay, but has anyone in the GOP publicly stated that it is dead?

Did Trump actually say he might run as an independent if he is not the nominee?

Did Cruz or any other candidate actually say they will support someone else if Trump is the nominee?

It was foolish to request and accept such a pledge before the attacks on each other started. If I recall, it was issued to keep Trump from running 3rd party if he felt slighted but it was never a good idea to begin with. Campaigns get nasty and bring out the worst in people, who may otherwise get along or, at the very least, tolerate each other.

The GOP will have serious trouble running with Trump as their nominee. Cruz is at a disadvantage but has a much better shot against Clinton than Trump does. If someone from the GOP establishment gets the nomination, I would rate that person's chances of winning the presidency as quite low.

Trump, Cruz, Kasich abandon 'the pledge' - Business Insider

It's every man for himself. None can concede that the other 2 are acceptable choices.

Why ids there any reason to believe anything these buffoons say if their pledges (= promises) are so meaningless?

Lol. On this we agree.

It's completely unenforceable anyway. We vote behind the curtain; you could say yes to the pledge and then go in and vote however you want.
