Perhaps Trump should, but there is no legal requirement to. His complicated tax returns will be lied about and easily misunderstood.
Buffett is a bit of a hypocrite and is deceptive in his claims.
#1 Democrats hear what Buffett says and think that most secretaries pay more than their rich bosses, which isn't true. It is possible that Buffett's
millionaire secretary pays a higher rate in income taxes than Buffett the billionaire. Most secretaries aren't millionaires and most pay little or even no income taxes.
#2 The point above assumes Buffett is being honest, but he is highly disingenuous.
Based on data that he released himself, his billionaire effective tax rate is actually 31% and his millionaire secretaries pay about 21%.
#3 Democrats ignore that Buffett lobbies (pays money) to get taxes lowered for private jet owners on multiple occasions from multiple angles.
He has been sued by the government over this issue, paid big lawyers and
won. How sincere is this desire to pay more in taxes, he isn't putting his mouth where he puts his lobbying money.
Guess what, it isn't middle class people using his company NetJets that owed $500 million in back taxes by saying that they weren't a commercial airline and therefore could avoid paying that tax.
Who profits? Shareholders and NetJet users. Who is the biggest shareholder? Buffett! Who are NetJet users? The rich!
#4 So one Buffett company, NetJet owed $500,000,000.00 in back taxes...another Buffett company owes
$1,000,000,000.00 in back taxes and he has an army of lawyers working on getting out of it. Buffett sure likes paying his taxes unless he as a shareholder benefits from his company not paying what is due. He tells the public that higher tax rates won't reduce investments from the rich, while his lawyers argue the opposite in court. Hypocrite.
#5 Buffett could choose to pay more, but does not. Instead he brags about various
loopholes he
uses.
Maybe we should raise taxes on the rich, but Buffett is a hypocrite full of disingenuous hyperbole on the issue.
