Buffett just challenged Trump to release his tax return and Buffet will then release his own return.

Unlike Trump, Buffet has shared the rate he pays which is less than the rate his secretary pays. Trump has declined to do so. He hides behind " being audited".

Both Trump and Buffett's returns are being audited. Nothing about the audit precludes a release. Nothing precludes releasing prior years returns.

It has been customary for candidates to release their returns for almost 40 years, including returns being audited.

Everyone knows why Trump wont release his tax returns, but it would seem that those who are voting for him don't really care. Thats not entirely true though... A recent PPP poll shows that 66% of voters think he needs to release them compared to 23% who believe it is unnecessary. The poll includes Democrats (85/8) and independents (60/22) overwhelmingly believe Trump should release them and Republicans (37/43) being pretty evenly split on the issue. I suspect the reason why more republicans and independents are against it is because they are Trump supporters and might think that it would harm him in the election.... for obvious reasons of course. Hopefully his resistance to releasing them will hurt him in the end.

He doesn't have to release the returns for all of his businesses. He's not running his businesses as DBA's, they are corporations. His family members also likely own parts of the corporations, so there is absolutely no reason to divulge that information.

His tax return will be more complicated, sure, but he should have years and years of tax returns that are finished.

My guess is that he actually pays himself very little, and his income (and wealth) is tied up in his corporations. His tax returns will not show his true income, not even close. He's probably embarrassed by how people will perceive his returns. I can't blame him for not wanting to show his tax returns, but he choose to run for president, and it doesn't look good since he is hiding behind some BS reason. Trump supposedly says whatever he wants, then he should just say he doesn't want to reveal his tax returns. I would respect him more for that.

Trump is a smart businessman, but that doesn't mean he will be a smart politician. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't own a single car, house, airplane, etc in his personal name. I'm sure everything is owned by various Trump corporations. Again, that won't show up in his personal tax returns.

Exactly. Any smart businessman runs most everything thru his companies and shows as little personal income as possible.

We are talking about personal tax returns, not those of his corporate empire.

Personal tax returns from a billionaire with hundreds of companies are meaningless. Im sure he has top accountants and his personals show he probably makes like $50k a year.

I don't agree with Buffeft on many political issues, but he generally gives out a lot of good advice. He's one of a handful of liberals I would be willing to listen to.
