California is home to 38 million people and, of that number, only 2 million are what would be classified as illegal immigrants. Oh and just so you know, the number of immigrants - at least in the agricultural area - has gone down. Spoke with a cherry farmer a few weeks ago who was worried about his crop this year. Seems he can't/couldn't find anyone to pick the fruit. As is the problem with many farmers up and down the valley. So it looks like you'll have to find another excuse as to why there isn't enough housing.

The number of illegal aliens is not an insignificant amount .

“In Southern California, about 1.4 million undocumented immigrants live between the southern Ventura County border and the U.S.-Mexico border — the biggest concentration of undocumented people in the country.”

If the media spoke about how much is being spent on illegals like they talk about Trump nonstop hardly anyone would support illegal immigration .

The left wants totally open borders . Thankfully Hillary didn’t become President .

That may well be but it doesn't explain why there is a housing shortage in all of California. Claiming it has to do with illegal immigration is silly and uninformed. And if those same people, who say that, will just research why, they'd see it but then that would take some initiative and it's easier to simply blame it on illegal immigration.

It’s not the only reason but it’s part of the reason

Of course you’ll never hear them mention that in the media .

Prices would come down if every illegal alien was deported . And no I don’t think it’s practical to deport them all . But we shouldn’t be embracing or worshiping illegal immigration like we do in CA.

Okay. I'll bite. Please, tell me how that will happen? Clearly, you and I see things differently but I'm truly curious as to how prices will come down by deporting illegal immigrants.

Pretty easy for you to say it's as simple as supply and demand. Except, that has little to do with illegal immigration. It's affordability and recent increase in prices. Illegal immigrants don't make enough to afford the outrageous cost of housing in this state, whether renting or buying. Even median income legal residents can't afford to buy in many areas of the state.

Not only that, the hoops that developers have to jump through; regulations, restrictions, environmental studies, cost of infrastructure, Etc., play a key role in why it's taking so long to meet the demand. And the impact its having on everyone in this state cannot be attributed to illegal immigration.

California's housing crisis reaches from the homeless to the middle class

Something else to consider. Don't forget the housing crisis in 2009 that caused all construction to stop and displaced a lot of homeowners. All those houses left vacant by previous owners were scooped up by investors. And like any good investor, their main goal is to make money. They do that by continuing to increase the cost of rent until the person/people living there can't afford it any longer and move out. Many move to the streets, which accounts for a small faction of the homeless population. Again, nothing to do with illegal immigrants.

Probably the most interesting article is the one below. It explains very well what's happening in this state, not just the L.A. area but all over. Worth a read. But again, nothing to do with illegal immigration.

Seriously, you and a few others here need to educate yourselves on the real reasons for lack of housing in this state and stop letting your ethic bias cloud your vision. And now that I've completely derailed the thread (apologies mods), I'll leave it at that and get back to the main topic.

They can't afford to rent in L.A or CA? Then how are they living here? They are all living rent free?..
It sounds like you don't realize the situation on the ground. You think there aren't any living in homes with family members on the title?

It's ridiculous he thinks he would stand a chance against Trump in 2020.

A Stanford University poll released Thursday showed only 5 percent of Californians would L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti if he ran for president in 2020.
U.S. Senator Kamala Harris was favored by 19 percent of those polled, while Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, a candidate for Governor, garnered 10 percent support.

He has described himself as an authentic American representing those who are opposed to the policies of President Donald Trump.
“We’ve got somebody who is playing with our lives in the White House — who doesn’t care what the price of soybeans are; who doesn’t care if that steel is more expensive for our carpenters,” Garcetti said. “He’s disconnected and he’s divisive. We, on the other hand, are people who care.”

And?

Is there some rule that says that everybody who considers running for president will be universally loved?
It's sort of why they do these sorts of polls. So people know whether or not it's worth their time and effort to try to raise money, etc.

I bet if you looked at similar surveys around the country that there are lots of people considering running that no one has any interest in.
Why pick on California?
