If Bernie was able to win many states throughout the country during the primary, and if Trump was able to beat Hillary despite spending way less on campaigning, then it shouldn't be hard to believe that a young, charismatic, attractive newcomer with a higher focus on people rather than corporations would win her local area.
It's crazy that so many think it's crazy that people do want things like health care over wars. It's like the world is upside down.

This is what the left has become. for the last 10 years, the dems have been running to the left while claiming the right has gone extremists. that side has just gone truly nuts.

Honestly, I think those who champion a man who'll kiss a brutal dictator's butt while throwing his own intelligence community under the bus on international TV have just flat lost their minds.

There are always a lot of Democrats who just want to win. Just as there are always a lot of Republicans who want to win.

How a candidate wins does not matter to them. It's the fact that candidate found a way to win that matters, so for those contributors, jumping on that candidate's bandwagon late is better than not at all.

Ocasio never had any money when she needed it the most. And by the end of the campaign, she still only had a small fraction of funding that her opponent had. She entered the race with $330,000, all from small donations, compared to Crowley's $6 million.

At the end, her contributions doubled, and she left the race with $660,000. Compared to Crowley's $4 million.

That's what disturbed and surprised the big-money Democrats so much. Ocasio used the internet to win, while Crowley didn't. And she knocked on every door of her district, while Crowley stayed in Washington and telegraphed his campaign in, back to the home folks.

Neither party has yet learned the simple fact that there are a lot of very unhappy working poor whose issues have been ignored for a very long time, and they're now demanding attention. If their representative isn't willing to come home and talk to them, they'll find another person who will.
It's the lesson Eric Cantor, once #2 in the GOP House forgot, and it's the same lesson that Crowley, the #4 Democrat, forgot. The voters don't care how well a politician's career in Washington is going. The voters care about their own careers the most.

The politician who forgets that fact of life should plan on losing his job. The Democrats didn't have to interfere in Cantor's defeat, and the Republicans didn't need to interfere with Crowley's defeat. Why waste the money on a sure loser?

The big donors are a colder-blooded bunch than that. They can see what's happening on the ground far better than elected officials can quite often. Congress has a way of blinding its members to what's happening back home. It's really easy for them to get all swept away with dreams of power that depend on re-election. But once they start taking their power base for granted, it can vanish in a flash.
Cantor lost because he was arrogant and didn't think he could lose - he was the expected next Speaker after Boehner.

Crowley lost for pretty much the same reason - he was the expected next Speaker after Pelosi.

You are correct about Cantor and Crowley - you are incorrect about Ocasio and support from big donors.
Donors on the Left don't come any bigger than George Soros - his groups not only funded her, they recruited her and Ocasio herself says that.

GEORGE SOROS’S MEDIA NETWORK WORKED TO HELP ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ WIN PRIMARY |Daily Caller - 7/31/18
The New York Times writes that she was able to defeat her opponent, who greatly outspent her, due to her online presence. In an interview with progressive digital media outlet “The Young Turks,” a member of a Soros-funded network of far-left publications called The Media Consortium, Ocasio-Cortez also admits that their coverage helped her win.

Members linked to Soros-funded digital media asked Ocasio-Cortez, a former organizer for Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign, to run for office — guaranteeing favorable coverage by a media network that reaches almost 300 million people monthly.

One member of the Soros-funded media, Cenk Uygur, also founded one of the two political groups responsible for asking Ocasio-Cortez to run, Justice Democrats — whose goal is to get Sanders-like politicians elected to Congress.

After Ocasio-Cortez’s website, Ocasio2018.com, was first registered May 3, 2017, it redirected to Ocasio-Cortez’s now-deleted page on BrandNewCongress.Org, according to an Internet archive captured June 29, 2017.

Brand New Congress is another organization, just like Justice Democrats, that aims to get socialists elected to Congress in the 2018 mid-terms. It has close ties to Justice Democrats.

All that said - she is a Gift to the Republicans, but they had nothing to do with recruiting her or helping her win her election.

progressives are the majority in your party and they want insane things that are hard hard hard left.

your problem is your progressives are aligned with hard left business leaders like Bezos and that idiot that leads Starbucks.

the left is still in favor of huge over arching government that meddles in every aspect of everyones lives, takes the vast majority of income in the form of taxes and in general hates the idea of independent thought.

your problem is your side has decided to take the money from the super rich that believe as you do. you have married big business with big government.

The democrat party in the 1970s stood strongly against illegal immigration.
the democrat party in the 1970s stood strongly for working class Americans.

The party today has abandoned those positions for strange riots in favor of the oddest of cultural cracks.
your party has marched hard left and now wants

Nationalized single payer healthcare
Nationalized free college

I could go on and on.

The Freedom Caucus has articulated down the line orthodox positions that the republican party has had in its platform since Reagan. There isn't a thing different.

The left has consistently marched left while the Right has stayed pretty much where it has been since the 1980s.

There has been NO radical shift to the right. period. That is a flat lie.

No business leader in the United States is hard left lol. Bezos employees work in appealing conditions because he is a oligarch. Most democrats are corporate democrats they take corporate money and pass policies to appease the wealthy and corporations just like republicans. If progressives were a majority in the party people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wouldn't be getting lambasted by the democratic leadership. Fact is the two parties are mainly right wing hopefully however the democrats will be purged of the corporate element and actual politicians that represent the working class are elected.

So you are prejudiced towards, older, dull and unattractive people? I thought Democrats accepted everyone?
(Except conservatives of course].
