No way in hell Nikki Haley primaries Trump. Not going to happen. And Sasse will not either. One of Kasich or Flake probably win since they have nothing to lose.

Agree. I could see Haley running in 2024 because she has Trump's confidence. Trump might bring her back in a different role after 2020, very visible, to set her up for the 2024 run. Secretary of State maybe, if Pompeo burns out. SoS is the most stressful job in any administration.

I don't think Pence's wife would let him run. Besides, he can make more money in the private sector and I could see him with a radio show, since he has a radio background, or becoming a guest on the political TV circuit and speaker circuit.

Kasich and Flake won? In what universe?

I'm not going to deny that I think some people who live in the blue coastal areas (to everyone's peril) underestimate Trump's appeal in the heartland or why he remains so popular with rural, very religious voters, but it's the large urban areas that are growing and the rural areas are in decline. The white Christian nationalist agenda of the GOP isn't popular with younger generations. It's not popular with urban voters or even with white educated suburban voters that used to be reliably GOP. The electoral college helps offset this somewhat but when you get down to it, if a majority of Americans live in the cities then it will be the cities that decide the direction of our country. Why shouldn't it be?

Good post. The white educated suburban voters you are referring to are skewed towards women. That's what showed up in the mid-terms. The GOP has admitted...for years...that it needs to extend it's outreach in order to survive. Trumpism is the exact opposite. He did bring out White Nationalist in 2016...but that is pretty much a one trick pony.

It's a moot point if Republicans even smell the idea of trying to primary against President Trump next year. Not a good idea if they really know what's best.

Who's better? He was the only one who made it to the end.

But the real question is:
Is there anyone left in the GOP who is willing to try to clean up the mess of the party Trump will leave behind him?

Yes the reports of GOP death are greatly exaggerated. If you look at national and state elected entities, the GOP still controls over 60% of the turf. In today's terms, that is a landslide margin.

What happens with Trump is a sheer guess. Latest rumblings are that Mueller has nothing. If he did, it would have been long since leaked. That's how DC works now. It really depends on the economy. If the economy stays good, we will probably have to suffer a two-term Trump.
