I don't think it is lost on anyone that the Mueller Iceberg and Trump Titanic are on a collision course, including many Republicans who are chomping at the bit the be the next GOP standard bearer. This article is from Washington Examiner which has a very conservative leaning. They are making the case that Trump will be challenged from within the party.

Republicans plotting to oppose Trump in 2020 waiting for Mueller and June before pulling trigger

Renegade Republicans intent on upending President Trump in 2020 are keeping their powder dry, waiting to see if legal and political controversies drive him from office first.

Political operatives and potential candidates that inhabit the loose-knit community of Republicans who oppose Trump’s re-election are eyeing June as the approximate moment for deciding on a primary challenge or independent bid. It’s a strategic delay. Some Republicans think the weight of multiple investigations could motivate the president to exit the White House after one term — especially if special counsel Robert Mueller issues a politically damaging report.

"The scenario I think we could be heading toward is Trump hitting a Mueller-induced problem where there would suddenly be several people looking at running because of the odds increasing that he won’t run again," said Rob Stutzman, a veteran GOP consultant in Sacramento, Calif., who has had discussions with like-minded Republicans about how Trump 2020 might be derailed.
Now I could be wrong but personally I think it is a question if the GOP itself can survive a post-Trump presidency. They are now looking down the barrel of a demographic disaster, which brings up a few other questions, is Trump a Russian agent...or a Democratic plant???

You must live in one of the fringe areas of the country that Democrats control. The only party in danger of extinction is the far left extremist Democrat party, which has been relegated to only large urban areas, and places like Vermont. The vast majority of the country in between will never accept the extremism of today's Democrat Party.

This is something that the GOP really needs to be prepared for.

There's a chance that Donald Trump is not president come November 2020, and they heed to have a contingency plan in place in case that happens.

I do live in a very blue part of the country...but I grew up in the heartland and know it well. It is in my bones. Look this is coming from a conservative rag and this is a legitimate discussion happening in the GOP. The Trump base is not growing, it's shrinking....the millennials are not following the previous generations pattern of voting more conservative as they age and combined with Gen Y they will represent 40% of the population by 2020. Trump put a death nail in the GOP with these demographics...IMHO.

As long as the Democrats remain wedded to their current brand of extremism, the GOP isn't going anywhere.

That would be great if Kasich runs. Siphon off some of those would-be Trump votes.

He went nowhere tur first time around. He’s not well loved by either the GOP or liberals. Why would he do better this time around?

Hilarious. Many of them indeed are and the reaction to them is why Trump is in office
