So, is this seen as a potential issue within the party?
"Even so, the Harris-for-VP talk highlights a very real issue for Democrats going forward. The party’s base is disproportionately black and brown, and increasingly young, progressive and female. Biden, the frontrunner, is none of those things. If he continues to dominate the polls — a big if, considering that Iowa is still nine months away — then he will eventually come under tremendous pressure to ensure that his ticket reflects the party he seeks to lead. The same pressure would apply to any of the other white guys angling to take Biden’s place should he stumble."

Because black people are beginning to realize that Democrats, after being the chief slaveowners in the 18th and 19th century, haven't done black people any favors since then either.
Black people are starting to dump the Democrat party in droves, including refusing to carry the Democrats' water any longer by offering leadership to a Dem party that has held them in contempt for centuries. Except right around election time when the Dems offer the same tired promises.

Black people aren't jumping to the Republican party in droves, either. Why would they join a party that doesn't even offer them the smallest voice on matters that deeply concern them? A bird in the hand attracts more people than "nothing" in the bush.
The demographics of America are still 2/3rds white though. Although in 2020 the consensus is that the under 18 population in the US will be a minority major for the first time ever, the population is still mostly white. If 2/3 of Government is white, that wouldn't surprise me not one iota.
And, in reality, you have Corey Booker, Kamala Harris, Andrew Yang, Julian Castro, and Tulsi Gabbard as candidates who aren't considered white/non-Hispanic . . . 5 out of 24 isn't so far off.
"I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
It's funny how some folks have forgotten about that.
My congressperson is African-American, and African-Americans constitute roughly 3 to 4 percent of the population of our district.
We nominated her because she was the best candidate out of a field of six, and most of the volunteers were white and male (as is usual for Democrats in this area). We all worked hard, and the people of our district agreed with us.
I think that says a lot about the character and the future of the Democratic party.
