What do you all think of a possible ticket of Pete and Doug Jones (AL-Senator)? Unlike Stacey Abrams who lost an election, he actually won in AL (and that has a lot better optics).

Doug Jones, a former prosecutor, fought on a case that brought KKK church bombers to justice. His turnout with the black community was huge in the AL Senate special election.

If Pete did something bold like announce Jones as running mate, before the convention and maybe even before South Carolina, it could be huge with the black community. Pete's numbers with black voters would strengthen to double digits. And Doug has some DC experience but not too much, and fewer would cite Pete's inexperience in DC.

He is also a man of faith like Pete, and (sad that I have to say it) but having a Christian married white man, father of children, as his running mate, would offset some of the homophobic feelings of Pete.

As for Doug, he has incredibly tough odds keeping his AL seat and this instead could be for a greater good. They'd have to find another local Democrat against Jeff Sessions. As a moderate and voice for moderates, Doug probably fears of a Bernie take-over of the party as well.

Of course, it will be to Amy's loss that her colleague moderate Senator teamed with Pete, but she has slimmer chances of moving ahead. I believe she would endorse Pete. Pete would take more moderate Democrat positions as a result.

I hate to ruin the op's fantasy, but that partnership will never happen, To begin with, Abrams is yesterday's news.
I believe Pete will be part of a ticket, but it will be as vp to Hilary Clinton.
Mid way through the campaign, she will suspend the campaign due to her husband's health.
Then she will ask the dnc to pick Pete for the presidential run.
Who he chooses at that point would be anybody's guess, but I am quite sure it won't be Abrams.

Just as a side note, in many states, because it may be to late to get her name on the ballot, she is going to have a strong write in campaign, which will win her the nomination.

Bob.
