Where he is starting from isn't even close to what we would end up with once it gets through Congress. But we might at least end up with something marginally better than the present.

The Dems can't win. If Bernie gets the nomination, the independents and moderates won't vote for him. (Socialist.) If the nomination is taken from him and given to Bloomberg, the Bernie supporters won't vote for Bloomberg. Meaning: TRUMP WINS.

Bloomberg will draw in some independents and some disaffected republicans. He is kind of Trump light. Maybe he is abusive towards women, but not as abusive. Maybe he is condescending and rude, but not as condescending and rude. Bernie would trash the economy and giggle with joy as he did it. Bloomberg will nto trash the economy - at least not on purpose. Bloomberg might have a chance. Biden might as well.
Bloomberg isnt anything like Trump. Trump is an anti establishment disruptor nationalist. Bloomberg is a globalist and in bed with China. If anything, the very fact that Trump is taking on China should make you vote for him. God knows no one else has.
Yes, totally absurd to follow the will of the democratic electorate. Sanders is the clear front runner already and handily beats any of the other candidates, including Biden and Bloomberg in head-to-head polls. If Sanders also get the most votes by a significant margin, it would be outrageous to hand pick someone else.
Trump is laughing his head off at the thought the DNC selecting someone with 15% of the vote as the nominee.
Trump and Putin are laughing their heads off at the thought of Democratic voters choosing someone who will struggle to get 45% of the vote in the general election.

If this country can survive Trump it can survive Bernie. It is a real stretch to get anyone to believe true socialism will happen.
Little to nothing would happen domestically. Domestic policy requires Congress and they would not get a majority for 99% of what Bernie proposes including MFA. Foreign policy though, he could influence. Given his coziness with Maduro, the Castros, and Daniel Ortega among other communists and leftists around the globe, it could be a major shift in US foreign relations.
There is zero "hard left" about Bernie. The guy is firmly planted in social democratic traditions and his policies would be embraced by most conservative parties in the rest of the developed world. He's a FDR-New Deal democrat. FDR was the most popular president in the last 100 years. If you seriously believe higher SS benefits, getting big money out of politics, strengthening labor unions and Medicare-for-all is "hard left", then you're way to the right of the mainstream. That's why Bernie is the most popular senator in the country, and he regularly gets lots of support among republicans in Vermont. They know who he is better than anyone.
It's the same recycled arguments used against FDR and Truman as well. Both wanted to have universal health care. We survived both presidents without slipping into communism but I guess this time is different in some people's eyes.
