59 percent of likely voters here now have a "favorable" impression of Democrat Obama, while a majority view both of the other candidates unfavorably. In a state whose Democratic primary Clinton won in February, 51 percent of voters now say they have an unfavorable opinion of her; 53 percent of voters feel the same way about Republican McCain.
Quote:
If the general election were held today, 54 percent of Californians say they would vote for him, compared with 37 percent for McCain. That gap has widened by 8 points since March.
If you delve into the numbers, you'll find his support has increased among Hispanics. They were also the ones who were projected to push him to a 13 point win in the primaries. That didn't happen.
I think the Hispanic vote is going to go to McCain.
Hispanics lie to pollsters and tell them what they want to hear. They vote otherwise in the booths.

Uh huh....
Would this be equal-to or greater-than the rest of the populations lies to pollsters. Before you answer consider the polls vs. election results, starting with New Hampshire. (and most of those folks weren't Hispanic)

LOL, that reminds me, I have a confession to make. I was wondering when this would come up.
I lie to pollsters. I have always lied to pollsters. I don't know why exactly, but I find it an amusing thing to do.
It's a guilty pleasure. I think polls are stupid and the people taking them are intrusive. Political polls, lifestyle polls, car sale polls, it doesn't matter... I enjoy seeing them turn out to be wrong. So I do my part.... I deliberately lie.
BTW, I'm not Hispanic so my transgression doesn't directly apply to this post. I just thought I'd mention it because I've often wondered how many other people out there find it amusing to lie to poll takers. I am otherwise an upstanding citizen. But I enjoy messing with polls!
The election in the primary when you have democrats vs democrats is a far cry from November when its a democrat vs a republican.
Most of California's high ranking latinos are democrats including the mayor of Los Angeles, former assembly speaker Fabio Nunez, former Lt Gov Cruz Bustamante and a host of congressional and state legislative leaders.
The community groups that support hispanic-american causes and social justice are overwhelmingly democratic and hold huge sway in their communities.
Not to mention the fact that in California, latinos are more weary of Republicans than they are of Barack Obama because of the anti-immigrant sentiment they project as well as propositions they've pushed that is a direct slap at latinos.
We can engage in flights of fancy but there is already a huge infrastructure in California in place that will be dedicated to Barack Obama getting the hispanic vote.

Yes indeed.
Anyone who thinks that California's Latinos are going for McCain is dreaming.
Hmmm....do you have any inside knowledge on why this is so? Or are you just spinning the result of the survey to make you feel better?
There was a study done on this by one of the polling organizations. The only problem is that it costs $$$$ to get it and I don't want it enough to pay for it. If you Google some good keywords, you'll probably find the organization that did the study.
You might also try googling "Bradley Effect"
