A cranky McCain loves to harange audiances with his demands, Drill Here Drill Now! He also loves to ridicule one of the most immediate things Americans can do to reduce their own consumption of gasoline. With this as the background I was surprised to read,

"(Reuters) - While the U.S. oil industry wants access to more federal lands to help reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, American-based companies are shipping record amounts of gasoline and diesel fuel to other countries.
A record 1.6 million barrels a day in U.S. refined petroleum products were exported during the first four months of this year, up 33 percent from 1.2 million barrels a day over the same period in 2007. Shipments this February topped 1.8 million barrels a day for the first time during any month, according to final numbers from the Energy Department."

I conclude that McCains rant is a public disservice message and he continues to be the mouthpiece for the Oil Industry that has him bought and paid for. (And at a cheap price for a man's integrity!)

That's his best tactic. Appealing to the instant gratification and instant fixes Americans so crave and expect. We're among the most impatient people on Earth.

It seems we've all lost our ability to suck it up and trudge through things slowly but steadily.

The computer you typed that idiotic post on is made from... oil. OMG!!

Everyone likes to point their fingers at the internal combustion engine, but the fact is that the majority of oil consumption has nothing to do with the average commuter's gas tank.

lol. One man, McCain want to drill to increase domestic supply of oil. The other man, Obama, wants to tap into our strategic reserve. Now which policy is the very definition of "instant gratification?" -- and at expense of our future.

There's no backing up that one. The idea of tapping strategic reserves is equally silly, but in a different way.

McCain is wrong in thinking that the long-term benefit, no matter how tiny, could possibly have an effect on today's market, and Obama is wrong in thinking that releasing any oil from the reserves would be anything but a temporary solution.

Making a national energy plan and taking action WILL cause today's prices to drop. This is because much of the prices oil trades at is due to market speculation. But don't forget that the dollar is also to blame for our high prices; oil is traded by the dollar. According to one editorial I read, if the dollar was even with the euro right now we'd be paying $3 at the pump, and oil would be trading at or under $100.

Some issues aren't going to be solved overnight. Increasing nuclear power and domestic drilling is the short term solution. Alternative energy, long term and it's going to require some technology breakthroughs.

Obama's tire pressure and strategic reserve tapping are more useless than Carter's sweater wearing. Barry is an empty suit with an empty energy policy.

President Carter was the most foreward thinking President since Kennedy. That old fool Reagan took down the solar panels that Carter put up on the white house and got all puffed up about there is no need to conserve energy. What an idiot.....and worse, most Americans believed him.....now he's dead and we are out of oil.

As long as we have air to fill our tires, Obama doesn't think we need oil. Talk about forward thinkers!
