Like many (most?) Illinois pols, Obama likes to think he is the incarnation of Abraham Lincoln. He has even used some of Lincoln's phrases in his speeches, e.g "a house divided against itself cannot stand".
Lincoln was not a great president. He preferred to see 620,000 people die than to deal with the underlying causes of secession and that was states rights.
No, lincoln is not popular in the south. If you had members of your family tree whose properties were torched and burned to the ground, animals killed and crops burned, even though they were poor, owned no slaves, and none of the family was even participating in the war, you might have a different perspective.
The last thing McCain/Palin want is for Barack Obama to be seen as a modern day Abraham Lincoln. hahahahaha

I don't think they need worry. Obama is farrrr from being Lincoln. How funny.lol
Lincoln = opposed the Mexican American war when he was in Illinois state legistature
Obama = opposed the Iraq war when he was in Illinois state legistature
Lincoln = was the target of an extremely racist presidential campaign where his conservative opponents claimed he was half-black
Obama = need I say more?
I guess he intends to continue the Bush suspension of habeas corpus, an illegal war, and get shot while watching a play? Really, this comparison is silly. How about some real issues here people? God, America is just dumb.
