I have met more than a few intellectuals with no common sense. We see quite a few in office who can't seem to grasp the concept of a balanced budget. Case in point the bail out. We are strapped for cash and yet they still had no problem loading it up with pork. More pork after setting a record high for pork in the last fiscal year...
Palin. I find her lack of experience troubling. I am to lazy tolook up the average SAT scores for Alaska or the the average reading levels etc. I would like to the scores compared to the rest of the USA. Why?Because more money seldom equates to higher quality when it comes to gov programs.

Even still, Obama's politics are not the politics I identify with and I'm not yet convinced he has the stones to execute his office effectively. I like his idealism but ideas mean little if they can't be put into action. Sadly, I haven't seen any real ideas out of Palin, so to be fair, it is hard to judge her in that respect but going by what I hear, no can do.

I only hope my pessimism is proven wrong by Obama.
Well, I can't argue with your assumptions. The way you perceive things is different than my way of seen the same things. The main reason why I am not voting for Obama is because I am a conservative (not a Republican), and his views are too liberal for my taste.

In my view (my own assumptions), Palin is as ready for VP as Biden is for it. She is not running for president, but if she were, she would be as capable (if not more) than Obama. She is much younger than Biden, in better health, and has a much greater capacity to learn new things and to bring in fresh ideas. She is new blood, something that is missing in Washington.

The reason why you haven't seen any real ideas of Palin is because of the spotlight of negative press she has been under. You have only seen what the news media wants you to see, and what the McCain handlers allow Palin to show or say.

In reality, Palin is quite conservative. She is an extremely fast learner, and can adapt to any situation is a very short period of time. The difference between Palin and McCain is like night and day in relation of conservatism in general. Her words and actions are ran through the McCain's sifter, so you can only see a little bit of what she really is.

Still, Alaska's budget is in the black, while those in most of the US cities are sinking into the red. Alaska also spends a lot more per student than most other States, and still, it makes no difference. Palin opposes throwing-in money, but voters still pass school bonds every few years. As a property owner in Alaska, most of the property tax I pay are school taxes. This is not Palin's doing, but we the voters.

I do agree with you that the bail-out, which McCain as well as Obama passed, is a bad idea. I also agree that Big governments create big budgets, and that Bush has created the largest government ever. If you see Palin's lack of experience troubling, how do you see Obama's complete lack of experience?

thats awesome. personally for me I just dont think it should be in the public school science class. thats for sunday school, private school, home school or higher level theology classes later on. It bugs me that Sarah doesnt see church and state are separate for a reason. One thing I like about Obama is he is a Christian, as I am one as well. I just dont believe in forcing my views on others in any way. Especially when it comes to school.
But you are wrong about Palin not seen church and state as being separate, because she does. Her kids attend public schools, and she never brings religion to the state, just like other religious people in the legislature don't. Palin is not forcing schools to tech creationism nor anything else.

Besides, in a lot of schools in the lower-48 States, students are given special time to pray. The problem I can see with this is that instead of learning about sciences, match, grammar, etc., students are spending a portion of this time to pray. And by praying I don't mean to say, just Christian prayers, but of all denominations (Muslims, Jews, Christians, etc.). When this happens, why shouldn't atheists, and witches be given the same freedoms?

The US education system has switched from sciences to social education, and so we are on a free-fall leading to socialism. We are dumbing-down new generations of Americans, boys who look and act like girls (and the other way around), boys and girls who do whatever "feels" good, an absence of moral values, and a lack of nationalism. They are children of the world.

I'm not sure about the church and state issue, Ray. Initially, she did support an amendment to the state constitution that would ban gay marriages, and she's said that she would support such an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I also believe Anne Killkenny about the Wasilla Library issue.

She can't force the schools in Alaska to teach creationism, but she has stated that she does think it should be taught; this is her quote;

Quote:
"Teach both. You know, don’t be afraid of education. Healthy debate is so important, and it’s so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both."
It's my understanding that public high schools do have philosophy classes that cover creationism; it just isn't taught as fact.

I also heard she held private prayer meetings in the state house. Has anyone else heard about those?

I haven't heard about those, but she did try to organize a day of prayer at City Hall while she was mayor of Wasilla:

Quote:
Records of her mayoral correspondence show that Palin worked arduously to organize a day of prayer at city hall. She said that with local ministers’ help, Wasilla — a city of 7,000 an hour’s drive north of Anchorage — could become “a light, or a refuge for others in Alaska and America.”
Among other things...
