Nationalizing the means of production. If the cost of living is unbearable then no one will move there to work for any of the oil companies.
I know what you're trying to say, but that's not what Palin herself said.
Quote:
A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, she told a visiting journalist—Philip Gourevitch, of this magazine—that “we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.” Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it (“collectively,” no less), but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist
Too f'n bad if it's cold and not hospitable. Move away if they can't afford it on private funds. No one put a gun to their head and ordered them to live in Alaska.
Great, another creepy little Alaska bashing thread courtesy of Google experts.

The drilling in Alaska is done by private companies. Why should the private companies have to be taxed more in order to "share the wealth" with Alaskans?
Why shouldn't they? I suppose you'd prefer we gave it to Cali instead.
I don't get it. There are already many socialist programs in our country. So why is the "S" word suddenly so frightening? Alaska is a good example of this, since it's a Welfare State.
How many military bases are in Alaska, Nancy? Do you realize that a good portion of federal tax dollars are going to them? Or is the military "welfare" now too?
Well, then perhaps oil companies should pay their employees enough so the gubmint doesn't need to cut them a welfare check. If they don't pay enough, they don't get their worker bees.
I lose it's a welfare program in disguise.....darn commie's!

You missed my point. Personally, I don't have a problem with that. My point is that if the McCain/Palin nuts are going to call Obama "socialist" for wanting to "spread the wealth," then they need to be prepared to explain why they are supporting Palin, when she herself has wanted to "share the wealth" of private companies with Alaska citizens. That's the point of the thread itself.

The military is a government function. An overextended one helping to bankrupt America, but that's beside the point.
Private citizens are not entitled to handouts by the gubmint. It's a welfare check, no matter how you'd like to slice it.

Alaska was called the Welfare State long before this election.
This is an article from Aug 2007, a year before Palin was asked to be McCain's running mate. USA Today listed some of the earmarks for Alaska prepared by Taxpayers for Common Sense. I guess Palin feels earmarks are only wasteful when the money is going to one of the other 49 states or paying for scientific studies to help children with autism.

I could care less about Alaskans. Alaska is a miserable place with no real seasons. Why do you hate capitalism so much as to defend a welfare program?
