Yes, this is the same Mort Kondracke who is a regular on Faux News..he's no liberal. He has an interesting solution to the recent GOP woes..stop allowing the leading right wing talk shows hosts to set the Republican agenda.

Kondracke is correct, though Limbaugh, Hannity etc. do a great job preaching to the choir...that's really all they're doing. Meanwhile, at the same time going off on tangents, his citing of Terry Schiavo and immigration are great examples, that are either completely at odds with the vast majority of the American public or, as in the case with immigration, an important demographic.

Of course, what Kondracke says makes way too much sense...lets hope for the good of the country his advice isn't followed.

How can the Republican Party rebound? The first step would be to quit letting Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham set its agenda.......... Step One is to fire Rush Limbaugh and his ilk as the intellectual bosses of the GOP. They shouldn't be muzzled, as some liberals want to do by reviving the "fairness doctrine" in broadcasting, just ignored more frequently. In recent years, Republicans have let right-wing talk show hosts whip the GOP base into frenzies -- over immigration, brain-damage victim Terry Schiavo and same-sex marriage -- that have branded the party as troglodyte. The result is that the demographic groups representing the future of American politics shifted decisively to the Democratic Party in 2008

Yeah, there is some truth to that. The fact is, the Far Right Loons mentioned have become the face of the GOP to many Independents and Moderates.

Easier suggested than done. The base likes their rage-nutrition just the way it is.

Look at the suggestion for education at the end -

I don't think PBS is the object of Kondracke's concerns.

His only bailiwick worth mentioning is that of improving education. Which is everyone's reponsibility, not just conservatives. Somethin' wrong with old, white and religious? Evidently, according to OLD Mort.... He ain't so young himself, certainly a whitey, anyone can see that. Old can mean experienced and wise. Whites responsible for the advances in civilization in North America and Europe. Religion (i.e. morals and values) is the backbone of a society, responsible for keeping order and self-governance. Kondrake not a real bright guy. But he's on the "winning" side, so the masses sit up and listen.

The Trio mentioned can be tiresome with their continual crusades, but who is out there to replace them? Should the "replacements" be more placid, more pleasant, more appeasing, speak only on those things people want to hear instead of reality? Too much of that already, it gains us nothing but further confusion and apathy.

That's exactly right. His point is that those Right Wing Loons are hurting the GOP. On the other hand, clearly the Democratic Party is doing JUST FINE. Personally it's fine by me if those lunatics continue to alienate the folks in the middle. It simply assures that the GOP will be relegated to a minority position in government.

In particular, I'm of the opinion that the "foaming at the mouth" illegal immigrant haters played a HUGE part in getting Obama elected - and I tried to make that point a few times on the Immigration Board, but the fact is, those folks just don't want to hear that. Unfortunately for them, Hispanics are a rapidly growing group and when illegal immigration bashers all too often morph their hatred from JUST being angry at illegal immigrants into a general attack on Hispanics overall (or even when it's just perceived that way) it more or less guarantees that the Hispanic vote will come down SOLIDLY on the side of the Democrats (DUH!!!!) - and of course when the country is otherwise pretty evenly split, that more or less locks up a Democratic victory.

So, if the Right Wing insists on remaining stupid, they will remain out of power. And personally, as long at they continue hate-mongering, that's goods news for America.

NOTHING wrong with being "old, white and religious". You missed the whole point. What's wrong is when that's pretty much the ONLY people you appeal to - and you alienate EVERYONE ELSE. The fact is, there are not enough "old, white and religious" people in this country to make up a majority - and as long as the GOP caters exclusively to that demographic they are going to remain out of power. American demographics are changing. That's a simple fact - and right now the people the GOP is appealing to are a minority - one getting smaller every day.

You can either learn from what he is saying - or reject it and suffer the consequences.

You are absolutely correct - the Limbaughs and Hannity's, and the Republican politicians who pander to them and are endless guests on their shows - are doing a tremendous job of tearing the GOP apart - until all that is left is a small core of hateful people who will not be able to win a national election were their lives to depend on it....

What great drama this is... we can enjoy watching the self implosion on tv or listen to it live on the radio and read it on the internet - and kick back and enjoy.... confident in our knowledge that Obama will be a tremendously successful 2 term president, that Hillary or some other qualified Democrat will follow as President, all while the sorry, pitiful, once-great GOP picks itself apart down to the bone...

They are such a stupid party at this point - who in their right minds would allow them run a dog shelter, let alone the country.... look at what they did in a short 8 years....
