Hmmm, the VAST majority of the people were against the bailout...yet it happened and ANOTHER even bigger one is coming.
Seems what the people want matters little.
If the majority of people felt STRONLY about the bailout, they could have created much more of an outcry. It's not that what the people want matters little, it's that the people don't want what they want enough. Our government DEPENDS on people caring enough to be involved.

It does not.
You are right on the money there.IF it followed poll numbers(which is after all,the voice of the people) then things today would be quite different don't you think.

You are kidding right???
Our representatives received THOUSANDS of call, letters and emails...however they did not care I guess.

This is exactly the problem. Polls aren't the voice of the people. You want your government to change, then you can't set back and point to the polls. Public opinion polls don't give a complete picture. The votes in the polling booths are just ballots. Important ballots, but if that is the end of the involvement people want to have with their government, then we get what we deserve. If you care enough about an issue, you've got to work to achieve your goals. Government isn't just the job of the people we elect, it's the job of all of us who believe in the concepts of a democracy, who want to see this republic succeed.

The people voted in an administration that thinks government is BS, is extremely cynical, and did whatever it could to not prompt a response from its people.
This is what you get for being apathetic, congratulations.

They care. They were between a rock and a hard place and picked the way with the least resistance. And guess what, that way was the "vast majority" of people who didn't like the bail-out. Because that representative knew that after the bail-out passed, those people would mutter and gripe, but they wouldn't do anything further. They wouldn't organize themselves to fight it, they wouldn't lobby the government to reverse its position, they wouldn't even organize themselves enough to identify the people who voted for it and start campaigning NOW against their re-election. Because the people weren't for it, but just how strongly were they against it?
Once it was passed there is little that can be done,in fact it looks like bailouts and nationalisation of business is the future for our nation...
