Autumn is also more impressive in the Appalachians Higher mountains tend to have more of those boring trees that look the same throughout the year

I read somewhere that the Appalachians used to be higher than the Rocky Mountains, but that was a really long time ago and erosion has been reducing them considerably.

Possibly.

I love the Appalachians so you can imagine how I loved living in the Spessart Mountains in Germany. I think Germany is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. And the Odenwald and the Main river! See - I like less extreme and more peacefully beautiful areas. Gently beautiful is the way I like to put it. Central Europe has plenty of that going on!

Indeed. It's all about your expectations.
If you need warmth (people or climate), no, perhaps Germany is not the place for you. If you need order, you probably imagine the only alternative is chaos...you'll ADORE life in Germany. That tension between order/chaos explains loads of creativity in Berlin. There's even a chaos day! Personally, I find the moaning and complaining here, the constant talk about work, efficiency, and work efficiency...EXTREMELY depressing. I feel insulted when folks ask me about my job (as code for status) before learning my name, and not having any other topic to address. It's cultural b/c I expect that folks here in Germany may perceive me as shifty when I DO NOT speak about my job.

They’re less depending than most North American cities.

People who think German cities are depressing haven't been to the right cities.

I'd say a typo (not depending) but that German cities are less depressing than American ones.

Obviously Germany isn't for everyone, most tourists find it incredibly attractive and easy to travel with English being widely spoken and efficiency generally the rule. The cities can be faltered in some cases, that being a result of the war and what replaced what was destroyed as being very inferior to what stood originally. But still most compare more favourably than many an American city, with a modern public transport system, safe to be out and about day or night, some great pubs and atmosphere but with cities and modern buildings as well that could be located in America. Still German cities are hardly bad places to be with Hamburg being among my favourite and a very cool place to be in. Especially in summer.
I would imagine Berlin life to have become even more cosmopolitan and risqué than when I was last there a decade ago.
The city I lived and environs Tuebingen is super attractive and well out city. Cycles dominate. Punting on the river and mellow people abound. I can only wonder how long the OP spent in Germany to arrive at such conclusions. Obviously one can find negatives if looking and if living there then there can be some like most everywhere. Aspects can be frustrating but a shame a holiday appeared to reflect only surface negatives with things like graffiti which in itself is hardly confined to Germany.

The OP is someone who lives in his childhood bedroom in his parents' house, still. Apparently, somehow, he saved the money for a trip to Germany. It may have been the first and only time he's been outside his own city or state. This is someone who, we learned in his other threads, has some kind of cognitive challenges.

I believe the Appalachians are actually RISING as a result of land masses that have been colliding for millions of years now (which caused coal to turn upwards 90 degrees and create anthracite in Pennsylvania)
