The Pact's primary purpose was not to divide anything; the USSR entered the Pact with Germany because the UK refused a defensive pact with the Soviets, and after that the Soviets wanted a pact with Poland to allow Soviet troops into Poland to counteract a German attack, in which Poland refused. So for the USSR, it was option C, a pact with Germany, basically buying time for a known event, the event being Germany's attack on the USSR. The part of Poland the USSR took actually was formerly part of the Russian Empire, taken from the Soviets (not officially the USSR yet though) in 1919 when Poland invaded the USSR; this was just an extension of the back and forth game going on in that area for centuries.

It was never their objective. That's your own fantasy.
They wanted certain territories, since they considered them important for security reasons. If invasion of Finland would really have been an "objective" for Russians, they'd have invaded it in 1945, having the biggest army in the world at that point in time.
- Stalin wanted to wipe Finland off the map.
- The USSR brutally attacked without declaring war against a small country with which the USSR had an non-aggression pact.
- Finland, with 3 million people and as a neutral country was in no position to threaten the Soviet Union or even St. Petersburg.
- The USSR is the only one to blame for the war.

Who thinks there is going to be conflict between Finland and Russia within the next 20 years? The Russians appear to want their territory back.
Russians don't need other countries territory, we have plenty of ours, we only protect our borders and our people. In fact we never attacked anyone in our whole history unless provoked.
If US and UK secret services weren't sponsoring government coup in Ukraine we would never take Crimea back cause we had great relationship with the legitimate Ukrainian president.

Saying that Russia only attacked when it got provoked is about as accurate as saying that the US only attacked when it got provoked. or any other country for that matter.
Hopefully not. But really, it's quite possible. Twenty years is a long time and a lot can change in that time period. Even just recently, Russia's economy has taken severe blows. You never know what they'll do if they feel desperate enough. I know Finland and Russia have never really been on the best of terms, but Europeans really need to stop fighting each other.

They were definitely not interested in the takeover of the country. Molotov - Ribbentrop pact ( and territories divided ( Finland including)) came already later in time, after all initial negotiations didn't bring any results.
