because the economies of the EU countries that use the Euro are flatlining.
the countries outside the Eurozone have better economies, the only exception is Germany.

because of Germany and their racist gross austerity monetary policy
they don't want eurobond
they don't wanna print money and giving them to the poor to spend or buy houses, like Americans did
they wanna make banks loan only to people who doesn' need money

this tower of babel is tearin apart

Too many people??

Expensive Euro??

What say you??
I think the developed countries be it Europe, the US or Japan have reached their peak, there is no further room for economic growth in the countries themselves and therefore unemployment is high, because of the Euro currency, countries like Spain, Italy or France are no longer able to compete with Germany, that's the reason why Germany has a moderate unemployment rate compared to the countries mentioned due to its huge exports. This is only my opinion, that might be wrong.

The common German people don't prosper by this policy, it is just the companies and a minority who have good jobs in the exports industry, the Euro is a great evil that creates strife between the European peoples. The German people didn't want the Euro but never was asked.

I wonder how many people counted as unemployed are actually working in secret?
I see that Spain and Greece have high rates of youth unemployment. But what age group counts as "youth"?

The unemployment level is higher in Europe because most european countries do not count working 10 hours a month as having a job, generally speaking.

Well, big business goes hand in hand with large scale immigration, big business only cares for shareholders, or the owners. (Just look at Phil Green. Greed personified) Also corporations do not need European apprentices they will get cheaper from abroad. Low population is the only way a country will give its citizens a better quality of life. Do we need fast food , über cabs and Chinese junk?

They even get a Knighthood for robbing peoples hard earned pension money and asset stripping companies - Sir Philip Green.

Very Sad.

is it really that different than the us? the op even said the 5% was phony... maybe the eu rate is less phony?

calculations for unemployment, just depends on the population that is measured, if it excludes people, it could be higher or lower, but it doesnt mean those people arent there

the problems of eu unemployment seem to focus on the same regions that show a bad economy, us media could run stories on the appalachians or rural life and show that the us economy is worse as well

Infact real unemployment rate is also very high in the USA and UK.

Quote
""""

It is also why French people are on strike in June. France doesn t want more flexibility. We don t want to look like poor poor US/UK just to give the impression to others that our unemployment rate looks better.

High unemployment rate in France compared to Britain?"

It is a conservative propaganda. The unemployment rate in France is at 9,9% and for the youth is at 20% according to Pole Emploi. It is much lower according to the BIT which is used in the UK.

Also the unemployment rate according to the BIT is based on "people who tell they are looking for a job". In France it is easy to be eligible to lots of benefits so an enormous number of people like housekeepers are telling they are looking for a job even if they don t. It is not the case in England because it is hard to be eligible to benefits. So people in England have no interest in telling they are looking for a job. Finaly it makes the unemployment rate low in the UK and high in France.

Therefore the more it is easy to be eligible to benefits the higher is the unemployment rate (even if the number of real unemployed people is the same)

In France it is easy to be eligible to lots of benefits and for life not like in Britain.

You just need to say in internet once a month that you are unemployed (there is no control)==> very easy in France to be included (you get 1000/6300€ net a month during 2/3 years then (for life) it is RSA (525€net a month)+APL(between 200 and 600€ net a month if you dont own your home)+ Holidays/ Xmas bonuses + kid bonuses ( 200 euros for each kid)

In Britain, it is only 400€ for 6 months and only if you have less than 21230€ in your bank account => very few are eligible and are telling they are looking for a job contrary to France. But it is worst in the USA.

What is important is EMPLOYMENT RATE AGE 18-60 (not 15-64 because it s not revelant for countries like France where people retirement age is at 55 or 60 or 62 and where school is mandatory for 15-17 years old)

Employment is increasing every year in France. 81% of people among 25/60 years old have a job => the highest rate in the world behind Switzerland.

Also in France there is no "crappy jobs" like in most G20 countries. Most jobs for the youth is low paid job in England or even zero hour contract. In France, It is forbidden, it is only CDD or CDI (permanent contract with high advantages 35hours a week, 9/15 weeks of paid vacation due to extra days off, 78% of your income when you retire given by the state (the highest state pension in the world=> it is not capitalisation like in the UK where you have to Save money in pensions).

Minimum wage is 1466.62 euros a month in France or 9.67euros an hour. + state pension + free education + free health insurance + free "mutuelle" + 300 euros not a month given by the state "prime d'activité" if you are on minimum wage and APL (200/600 euros net a month if you don 't own your apartment) => The most generous country in the world for under 2000 euros net a month people. Thanks to our very high productivity.

To conclude the British economy sucks a lot when you take a look at the numbers.

It is just anti-Hollande, anti-socialist party, the right-wing bingos, right-wing propaganda all arround the world and the way the unemployment rate is presented which gives the impression the employment situation in France is bad. But not as bad as in the UK or in the USA or even Germany.

Also:

According to INSEE, 588 000 people in France are in the A category whereas they should be in the D category (D category is part time jobs which is not include in the unemployment rate but in France when you go from A to D category you loose your 1000€ net a month therefore most people don t say they work some hours a week.

Also:

More than 1 million people in France are not looking for a job but, as non-workers, they benefit from benefits and are registered as unemployed. An enormous number of people like housekeepers are telling they are looking for a job even if they don t to get 2000 euros a month. (In France you can tell you are looking for a job and refuse all job from Pole Emploi. You don't need to look for a job if you say you are unemployed ==> the onyl country doing this)

Also:

Very few people are in a training program in France. Training programs in Germany and in the UK are massive which contribute a lot to a fake low unemployment rate too.

1.5 million in training program in the UK and Germany vs 320 000 in France. Hollande will add 500 000 which will contribute to put unemplpoyment rate close to the British one. Just with this tool haha.

Finaly:

In France, productivity continues increasing and is higher than in other countries thus companies don t need to hire.

1 French job is a full contract= 3 German contracts= 6 zero hour contracts in the UK. There are very few part time job in France.
Don t forget, we have the highest fertility rate in Europe for years, thus many people arrive in the job market at the same time which is difficult to absorb. Our demographic situation is a nightmare in the short term and costs us a lot.
In Germany their demographic situation help them to have a lower unemployment rate.

But even without the "Finaly" described above, the employment situation is far better in France than in Germany or England, from my point of view.

All of this are only facts and not what you read in the anglo propaganda news.

I think there are various reasons for unemployment in the EU (might apply to the US and Japan as well):

automation and globalisation, TVs, computers and the like, none of this is manufactured anymore in the EU as far as I know.

rigid laws concerning dismissal protection plus high additional cost of work, it's easier in Germany to get divorced than to fire an employee in certain cases, don't know if this is sound

stagnant domestic demand, most people have everything they need
