I watched news the other night where a Greek guy stated he is leaving home to find a job in Germany. He also stated that all he's got left, is a one-way ticket to Berlin. (Absolutely no money left to take care of himeself, by the time he gets to Berlin).
This scene got me thinking, how courageous people can get when they go broke (poor) and how they embrace the possibility of starving/malnutrition in case they can't feed themselves in the second country.
So I have a question to ask. What would a lonely guy with NO money is going to do in a new country where he wants to find a job??
Is there any charity/shelter to help them regardless along the line?
Sorry to bring this topic on, but I just want to walk in his shoes a mile in my imagination.
It's a kind of Detroit situation in Greece where the average worker knows that he will be supporting 5 or 6 people demanding he work harder and pay more so they can do nothing and enjoy life...eventually, it's going to fall down.

As far as I know the situation depends on the country where a guy is going to. If we mean USA, Germany, Australia etc then any man can find job with good salary and rent a house .
The simplest way to earn money in the USA...wash dishes in cafe. Many students work a few hours a day making job like this. The feature is that someone can easy earn 10 dollars per hour or more only in countries with high standard of living and strong economy.
There is no such thing like a "perfect country". Germany is surely not a land of milk and honey. As far as I know people from other EU countries can apply for the regular social benefits in Germany. So he will be able to rent an apartment and have enough money for basic needs. The employment agencies will put some pressure on the recipients to get them into work.
At the moment a few hundred thousand people from other EU countries (mostly poorer countries) come every year to Germany to find a job. And most of them find a job. Many industries have big problems to find workers.

This is how people arrived in the US in the 1800's and early 1900's. How did they manage, tumbled into New York city immigrant communities without jobs, and maybe $5 in their pockets? Yet manage, they did, and many came to make a decent living over time, and to support families.

In some ways, times were harder then, though. There was no safety net. It would be interesting to find out how some of those cases did succeed. Probably some didn't. But desperate and hopeful people will take a chance, now as they did then.
