Happy New Year everyone. Now get ready for long lines at your local gyms because the New Year resolution crowds are back.
I think it's cool that people want to get into fitness, but I can't stand waiting to use a treadmill or bench press. Luckily most of these folks will be done in 2-3 weeks.
Have any of you noticed that your gym is too busy this time of year?
A friend of mine calls them "the January People." I stay away, except for pre-dawn hours, until early February, when many of them drop out. The January People never want to work out at 5 a.m. ...

Good point. I think I need to hit up the gym before work from now on. LOL January People.
I always thought it sounded like a science fiction movie title ... Ah, well, I was a newbie at the gym once, too; I just had the good sense to join in April.
LOL--Thank God for New Year's Resolutions! I'm a personal trainer and this time of year--from now until around the middle of February--is to us what the time between Thanksgiving and Xmas is to retailers. I'll usually sign-up about half of all my clients for a given year during the first several weeks of that year!
Alas--you're pretty right-on about most of them being "gone" quickly. Maybe not quite in only a couple weeks like you said, but our records usually show that, of all clients who join a Gym in January, less than half are still attending once a week or more by May or June.
It's just the American Way, I guess!
I don't mind the resolution folks. I don't work out the way they do so it isn't a bother to me. (They seem to stick to cardio and nautilus... I don't use nautilus machines very often.) I say, good for them. Too bad more of them don't ask for help though; perhaps if they did they'd see results quickly and it would keep them going. Thirty minutes of walking on a treadmill, followed by a bunch of crunches? This is the routine of the average overweight female who joins in January, no wonder she'll drop out in a couple of months.
Experienced this for the first time today. Props to those who are trying to better their health/physique but, STICK with it!
All ellipticals and treadmills were taken today guess I should consider going at a different time as some of you have already posted..
