Well, here in Central Texas, we're finally getting some rain to break the drought! We really need it like crazy!

Problem is....the rain is....rain. I've been running a lot all year long and have seen results. I'm loving it! But the rain is a bit of a damper (pun intended) on my enthusiasm to run in the morning.

So I was wondering about any tips or tricks on running in rain? Not heavy, monsoon-like downpours, but just drizzles and light rains? Gear-wise, what sort of raincoats would be good? What should I wear? Should I avoid certain terrain, etc.?

Thanks in advance!

Ah, good witty writing is ruined when someone inserts "(pun intended)" or "(no pun intended)".

Anyways, when it's drizzling or sprinkling I usually wear the same thing, shorts and a hooded sweat shirt. I think some people put little baggies specifically made for running shoes, over their feet. A nylon/gore-tex/rain proof jacket may be worn too. However, since you live in Texas - if you're on about saving money, might just suck it up and run in the rain as normal for those few days.

You can find some ideas here:
Waterproof jacket and tights-Men's

If you have some money to spend the 'effusion' jacket by mountain hardware sounds nice.
I found a used light goretex jacket for cheap. After about 2 miles I'm fully warmed up and take it off to be picked up when I'm done. Once you're warmed up it's surprising how much cold and rain you can run in while staying comfortable. It's getting thru the warm up phase that's tough.

Another idea is to do enough exercises indoors before you run so that you are pre-warmed-up. I do situps, pushups, dumbell work, etc.

Default Wet Running in the Rain

Yes guys, most of them will love to get wet in rain, if it occurs rarely. It will be always good if wear right kind of clothing, and its related accessory while getting wet in the rain. I too go with wutitiz, its always welcome, and preferable to wear waterproof jackets, and tights while getting wet in the rain.

Anything not-cotton.

For warm and rainy: a wicking t shirt and nylon running shorts.

For cold ( sub- 40F) and rainy: running tights or knickers, a long-sleeved wicking base-layer, wool socks, and a water-resistant rain shell (I find waterproof shells too warm and clam-y for running. Save them for cycling and hiking). I use cheap "magic fingers" gloves. If it's more rainy than cold, I wear a nylon ball-cap to keep rain off my face. If it's cold enough that I want my ears covered, I just use a cheap stocking-cap and suck it up.

My Gore-tex trail runners are not my favorite shoes, fit-wise, so I tend to save them for slushy-snowy- wet runs were getting my feet wet isn't merely uncomfortable, but crosses over into "dangerous".

I'd add - if you are running near cars , please wear something that makes you hard to miss!

I ran in the rain plenty in the Marine Corps - good times.

True runners run in all kinds of weather. Ever hear of a race being postponed due to rain? Of course not. I ran a half marathon about three Miles were rainy and a 10k with about 7k in heavy rain. I have also trained in the rain.
