I love diet Mountain Dew & Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi but with the research coming out on diet soda and the potential increased risk for dementia...I am rethinking the soda habit.
I don't drink a lot of soda but the study is saying even one a day is bad

This sucks.
Why don't the regular sugar ones? The diet soda has artificial sweeteners in it. That being said, I think it should be okay in moderation. They're always coming out with studies saying one thing or another. People who are diabetic, for example eat artificial sweeteners all the time, and they seem to be okay.

I don't know what studies you are reading but if you read this one, Sugar- and Artificially Sweetened Beverages and the Risks of Incident Stroke and Dementia | Stroke, you'll find out there are many problems with their research. The study said there were no significant associations between cumulative beverage consumption of artificially sweetened soft drinks with increased risks of either all-cause dementia or Alzheimer's after adjustment for the covariates. The study also does not show a cause and effect relationship between soda and stroke.
You actually need to read the study and not what was written in USA Today.
Diet soda with all the possible chemicals can't possibly be healthy. I'm happy that I've seemed to have kicked the long habit.....I plead ignorance more than addiction. I figured drinking sugar free would be good for weight control, but really it didn't help.
I dropped it like a hot potato almost two months ago and I can feel the difference..My mouth isn't dry and I don;t have the full, bloated feeling anymore.
And this is from someone who has drank it for over most of my 50 plus years on earth. I don't miss it one bit.
Now I have maybe two sodas per month. It's not that I'm trying to avoid them, per se - I just prefer other drinks. The result is that when I do have a soda, however, I really enjoy it.
I used to drink lots of Coke and Mountain Dew. Now my occasional tastes run toward a root beer in a frosted mug, or the occasional strawberry or cherry soda.
I drink a soft drink about twice a month, but not at home. I found it too easy to drink a lot of it if it's easily available, especially in a one-litre bottle.
All the fruit drinks, juices, and sodas are banned since the doctor found it was causing the blood glucose to stay elevated.
